Hi guys, from various sources, I feel this will help you in acquiring and selling profitable domain names. Please add to this if you wish.
Firstly, use google trends to predict the popularity of a keyword, you can see in which countries is it popular.
Secondly, to be more accurate, use Google Keywords planner, found inside and Google Adwords and check monthly searches. I guess the higher the better (100K+ searches are rare), but sometimes a keyword is worth more than just the stats.
Also, the advertising cost/competiton shows you how valuable the keyword is.
Then, when it comes to selling, besides trying premium/featured listings on Go Daddy and SEDO,
one of the best reported methods is direct sales.
To get an idea of the buyers, you can sell to, check who is advertising when you do a google search for your domain and contact them.
