Finding names that owners don't know value of

I'm thinking there must be people who have developed low-traffic sites, yet with a decent domain name, who are unaware of what the domain name is really worth. I'm sure many of these site owners would like to just get a few bucks for the site so they can walk away from it with something. Any ideas on how to find these?

What makes you so seemingly sure of this, IYHO? :|

Thanks for the insight.

When I first started my own site my ISP registered my domain name and I never new I could sell it. I would imagine there are alot of others who have no idea that they have a good domain name.

Perhaps this is true ... though on just about every inquiry I've ever made (particularly of late) for what I believed to be a really decent domain name (and with me assuming the owner's had not a clue as to its value), I've been quoted some VERY high prices, IMHO. This leads me to believe that while we are domainers and may perhaps more in-the-know with respect to "Quick Sale" pricings, these folks do see LOTS of value in their domains, as well! :imho:

We should conduct a "test" and make some inquiries ... maybe we'll luck out and acquire a beauty for some spare pocket change! :talk:
Thanks much for the continued inputs here.

I think often the opposite is true.
You only have to see all the listings on eBAY for Multi-million dollar domains that have a real value of "Reg Fee IMHO"
Plus all the Publicity about recent mega-Priced domains ,
suddenly everyone thinks "adfafafrqccae.zxw" is worth Big Dollars
Human Nature ,everyone thinks their Favourite name is Worth Top Dollar
There are only two categories of Names
1/ Premium
2/ Anyone elses Names

It depends on your luck too. You can have 2 possibility prices from a don't-know-marketprice owner: Low price or HIGH price. Since they do not know the market price, they value their domain(s) "way too off". Why? Because they don't know the value and assume the most out of it. I have some prices from owners of some alright-domains in the 10+k prices. Silly? Yes very. But of course, you will also see the category 2 type of sellers, which happens to be the minority.

I've approached about 15 owners of what I would consider premium domain names, mostly poker, ringtone, and top-notch 1-word .cc names. I targetted specifically domains with no website on them. I got about 9 or 10 responses back. About 7 of those had a price. 2 of those prices I considered reasonable and something I'd pay if I had the money. I tried negotiating the price down on all of them, only got 1 to do it. Thankfully it was 1 of the ones with a reasonable price already, and he nearly cut the price in half. Everyone here that has commented on it has said I got a killer deal on it even though the true value of the name is up for much debate given it's .in extension. The deal was Poker.in for $2,650.

So yea, you can turn up good deals. Still, I wouldn't say that guy didn't know what his domain was worth. I would more or less say that he is probably less confident in the .in extension than I am and was willing to get solid money now than expect more money later. I rarely see sales where people simply don't know the value of their name and give it up for a small fraction of its CURRENT worth. I do see a decent amount of sold names that, with some development and/or some time, would increase to at least 10-fold of what it sold for, but again, that's a matter of its owners not wanting to put in the effort/money of developing the name and not believing it's worth holding onto as opposed to getting solid money now.
