whats the one word value of these extensions? :p

You can now register up to 28 new and alternative domain extensions.
.agent, .arts, .auction, .chat, .church, .club, .family, .free, .game, .golf, .inc, .kids, .law, .llc, .llp, .love, .ltd, .med, .mp3, .school, .scifi, .shop, .soc, .sport, .tech, .travel, .video, .xxx

Access to these new domain names is currently available to internet users via one of several partner ISPs and users who have activated their browser with a simple to install plug-in software application. The number of internet users who have access to these new domains is growing rapidly. It already exceeds more than 180,710,501 users world-wide.

These easy-to-remember addresses will expand the marketing opportunities of your brand. They'll attract more traffic to your websites. Some domain owners are using these names to launch new e-projects; some are pointing them to existing sites; and some are extending their current brands to the new extensions.

As I understand it, those aren't real extensions. So worthless.

I don't have access to those extensions.

Some of them have more value than others, but only if they were real extensions instead of software redirects.

I've heard you need to download software to actually be able to go into the website..they're worthless.

new.net domains? Not viable for business applications as a primary website address. They may have the benefits of being listed in new.net's directory, but I would not consider that worthy of the high registration fees. You can buy almost three real domains for the same price.

I seriously doubt that many people installed the plug-in since I don't know anyone who's installed it.

extentions

i think as the internet grows... there will be more use out of some of those extentions.... but for now...as everyone said they are worthless....

xxx.ws .....even seem kinda worthless unless its one that pertains to the buyer

might seem it a lot, but why shorten your list of possible visitors to these when you can have a larger market using a better domain?

$0.00, it might be worth something if they didn't require software installation.

My understanding is that new.net is essentially an attempted end-run around ICANN. That being the case, w/o a major change in the structure of the internet and name assignment procedures, I don't see a way around a plug-in for these names, although there may be something to the concept.

deja vu

I seem to recall something similar to this a few years ago, as far as I can recall it died a (un)natural death. From memory it was about selling cheap "domain names".

well you're right ....

Perhaps they will someday, you never know.

However, that's a big "if" right now, and as it stands, isn't worth much, if at all.

1) Those aren't officially sanctioned TLDs like those from ICANN

2) Having to install something to use it is a big limitation for anyone. What good would a cool name be if people aren't able to access it? It's like a garden in the middle of the desert that no one ever reaches.

3) having those "millions" of installations don't really count as a "claimed" number. You only have to ask yourself, who are the people you know that are using them?

There were many workaround attempts on domains (like RealNames for one), but none of them really flew.

I Still see no value in them Period - Even if one of the extensions is approved later on .... it is very doubtful the Current Registrations will be honored. Seen something else similar here : dotworlds.net - Even stranger Extensions lol -
