Whois.sc only shows whois of popular extensions, if you want to find whois of other less famous extensions, try the whois service provided by the registrars.

Incorrect. Whois.sc is showing more and more, including many cctld's, but they don't really advertise it.

Example:
http://whois.domaintools.com/webweaver.nu

Don't mean to boast, but http://www.qwhois.net supports over 400 extensions!

See http://www.qwhois.info to see what we cover! :red:

[/Self Glorification]

P.S. You won't always be able to find out who owns a domain, especially if they have entered incorrect details or have purchased Domain Privacy such as that offered by DNOA.org :)

Is there a complete list of extensions that you support?

http://www.allwhois.com supports just about any extension.

all you do is type in domain (ie namepros.com) and it does the work of selecting the right whois database

Forgot about that one. I used to use that one before I found out about whois.sc

Also, if you're interested in Protecting trademarks across the world, you might want to check out SafeNames and/or Ascio.

I use SafeNames to check global ccTLD's for names that I am interesed in. They both require a signup, but its painless.

I have a big list of whois servers, and just telnet to the server I need.
But then again, I am just weird :P

This might be the case, but most likely the quickest way, not having to deal with other data you don't want.

http://www.qwhois.info shows every domain that the site supports, as stated above. It can be hard keeping track of so many different extensions. :o

The list includes some sub-domains which you can register also.

I'd strongly like to know that, too.

That way we could avoid the occasional "domain hijacking" that many have been noticing when checking their domains to register...

Telnet'ing can be very difficult, especially as you require to know all of the WHOIS server addresses.

To Telnet in XP, go to command prompt (Start, Run, type "cmd")

Under Command Prompt, type "telnet [address to server here] 43"

43 is the port for WHOIS, like port 80 is for http traffic.

It will say connecting and once it has connected, the screen will go blank. You can now enter an address into the command prompt. It will not show up in the window but it will still work. Once entered, press return / enter and the results will come up.

You have to be quick though, the connection might time out!
