i regged a site named fiatfanclub.com planing for staring a site on fiat cars from old to new
any opinions will be appreciated

Good reg IMO, domain has a nice ring to it and is catchy, these types of sites can get many members and a cult following.

You need a forum on it for starters, and the rest should come naturaly. Good advertising oportunities on a site like this.

There are competing sites i see, so you will have to do a good job of it.

Are sites like "Fiat Fan Club" typically safe from any TM claims, even if they are operated for profit? The company does not want to risk pissing off members who are their customers and potential future customers by pulling the name, as long too many of the threads aren't titled "Fiat sucks!".

I cannot see this as a problem, they are fans, it's not the fiatsucksclub.com

Right, it says "fans", but if the forum operator manages to make a profit from ad sales etc, there as still no trademark issues with car forums?

I am guessing that if you got a site called NIKEFans.com and it had a forum but you also ran ads and maybe mail-order sales, in other words, operated it for profit, and you were US based, Nike would probably get in touch with you sooner or later...

I have bmwlovers.net, and people have told me it's TMed. I still have it and BMW hasn't knocked on my door.

But sometimes I get confused with TM domains.

For instance, what if I picked mcclarenf1.com? Would that company be after me for using their name in a domain name that I got? (just an example)
