This domain has been in my possession for some years now. It has a website on it, but lately I've been slacking on updating its content and graphical bug in firefox.
Recently a domain broker contacted me telling me they offer $5,000 for this domain. This amount is a bit too low for my taste (mainly due to personal attachment). I'm a programmer and not a businessman. I'm leaning a bit towards contacting a domain broker, but the amount of scammers out there is gigantic; hence this post here.
I've done quite some googling myself and found out some saleprices of recent two-letter dot-net domains:
XS.net- $13.000 T.R.A.F.F.I.C., november 2006
CD.net- $20.000 T.R.A.F.F.I.C., november 2006
PO.net- $10.000 T.R.A.F.F.I.C., november 2006
SO.net- $13.000 T.R.A.F.F.I.C., november 2006
Lv.net- $10.000 KuwaitNet, february 2006
These aren't two of the same letters like ff.net, but I can imagine CD.net being a wonderful name as well. pc.net is for sale for 80k I believe, but since that's not the selling price I'm not too sure they will actually receive that kind of money.
Last, I'm a bit confused by using stats to decide on the value of my domain. It sounds a bit silly searching for two f's in google - of course I get 133 million results, its not a word! Judging from the stats on my website most users end up with my domain because of "Final Fantasy", "FireFox" and "Fan Fiction". I get a gigantic amount of traffic from the last one, since its huge community nearly all shorten fanfiction.net to "ff.net"
At the moment my domain has a PR of 4 (used to be 5 when I frequently updated it). I serve about 100k pages a month. According to a backlink checker I have 989 backlinks and an overture of 14462 (for the term 'ff', heh. 147 for 'ff.net').
Any thoughts on how I should procede further would be appreciated!
