I am just wondering how the rest of you value the various TLDs. Now, my view of some of them can be enhanced by a fitting use of the TLD, but in general I view them as follows for investment purposes:

1) .com
2) .us
3) .info (if it fits the extension)
4) .ws (lots of good overture keys left and a good future imho)
5) .org (if it fits the extension, especially .org 3 character)
6) .net (I don't like .net very much at all...a leaky ship to me)
7) .biz (I really don't see this ever taking off)
8) .co.uk (too small an audience)
9) .cc (if it fits the extension...can get a good .tv listing on GreatDomains)
10) .tv (as .cc above)

Your opinions are valued and certainly add in why you feel how you do. :)

I almost agree with you.. :)

I would have put .info further down the list, because IMO the extension is too long, and the market is beginning to get flooded with crappy and spammy .info domains now. (due to the free .info craze)
So I would put that one under .org/.nets

.ws is a good extension IMO, because it's short, easy to type (two letters next to each other), and easy to remember.. :)

So my list would have looked something like this:
(maybe a couple of minor adjustments, I haven't really decided yet.. :) )

1) .com
2) .net
3) .us
4) .ws
5) .org
6) .info (if it fits the extension)
7) .biz (I really don't see this ever taking off)
8) .co.uk (too small an audience)
9) .cc (if it fits the extension)
10) .tv (as .cc above)

Thank you!

Thank you for sharing your opinion! :)

I know that outside the US the .INFO TLD is more popular so that is one of the reasons I ranked it so high, but your opinion on the dilution rings true and is something I had not considered.

:D

1) .com
2) .info (if it fits the extension, potential to surpass .com on some)
3) .us
4) .net (I'd rarely reg these)

.ws? Undecided, good keywords still available but reg is expensive at $50.

.tv and .fm useful only for rv or radio related in my opinion

As far as 3-letter versions go, I think the market ranks them in this order of value:

.com
.net
.info
.org/.us
.biz

.us is creeping up the list quickly, and .info is strong despite the freebies, as all the 3-letter versions were taken long before that promotion. .org is holding steady and .net and .com are both appreciating nicely.

Just another perspective I guess...

Gotta admit I've never registered one because while doing a search for .ws domains, the first registrar I came across was charging $50 a pop.. never bothered to look beyond that because of the price. I assumed $50 was correct because of it being from Western Samoa ...

4 biz
.org is not commercial domain
cctld: the biger market the more valuable domain
1 .us

Depends what type of domain business you prefer. If you're active marketer and know how to advertise and sell domain names, how to find a buyer - just main TLDs and some known ccTLDs (.cc, .tv, etc) with good term are your best choice I suppose.
As I am not a good marketer I prefer earning on parking programs. Thus does not matter for me what extension I register. Just main criterion is the level of traffic of particular domain, so number of searches, searches with extension, etc. And can be any extension if particular domain guarantees satisfactory traffic.

For commercial use the best tld is obviously .com, that is if one can afford a good name in it. I'm not at all convinced that .com is a "good investment" from a domainer's perspective, with perhaps the only exception being somehow catching a decent name on a drop....otherwise, you can't imagine finding even a half-decent name un-regged, and we all know aftermarket prices for good .coms. So, from a purely ROI (Return on Investment) standpoint, my impressions are as follows:

1) .us (a sleeping giant; huge potential)

2) .info (especially, if it fits the extension)

3) .biz (I am not as pessmistic as some others here; Gay.biz just sold for high 4 figures)

4) .ws (lots of good overture key words left and a fair future imho)

I like .WS obviously... I'm certain I will be adding another one to my collection today. I wish there were many keywords avail. as they are all gone...

For investment purposes and looking at ROI, from my experience and observations:

.co.uk (large internal economy and the main extension in the uk)

.de (large internal economy and the main extension in germany)

.us (large internal economy but com is often regarded as ccTLD in the us)
