Am I misunderstanding something or has families.com just been auctioned off for $650,000 ?

The domain has revenue of ~$13,000 per month which is $156,000 per year. At $650,000, this is only 4.1 times annual revenue which is actually a pretty fair deal.

If I had a domain making $13k a month, I wouldn't sell it for $650,000. Seems like a bargain to me!

This is a developed site, shouldn't be treated as a domain sale. Strong revenue as mentioned and wouldn't be worth the kind of multiple usually put on natural traffic names.

Well since it is developed, I believe it is even a better deal!

There are much more webmasters acquiring at better revenue multiples than domain investors from what I seen.

Let's not forget that not only is the domain increasing in value, the revenue should be increasing as internet use gets more widespread. It will likely be around ~3 years rev. IMHO. Great buy...

One thing that kind of doesn't make sense with this website is that it has only 300 overture w/ ext.

That makes me think twice on how the traffic is generated to the site...

For a website to have 1 million uniques per month and only 300 ovt w/ ext calls for a serious explanation from the seller...atleast if I were to buy it.
