Facebook is doing a 100Bil Ipo, Groupon is doing 750M Zynga is expected to do 1B Ipo...

The question is though, how will this affect the face of the internet as we know it?

Will yet more people simply move everything to facebook and ignore the vast majority of the internet or will it eventually lead the gargantuan to break apart at the seams?

(I didn't know the more appropriate sub-forum to put this)

Facebook is still experiencing world wide growth, but they are now seeing a monthly net loss of members in the US. And so it begins...

Friendster -> MySpace -> Facebook -> ???

Groupon isn't going anywhere, and I'd hate to be the guy that sold Groupon.com to them for $250,000. Whether or not that price was calculated or just a mean spirited "I don't expect them to actually pay this much" price after they told him they had a TM on it, he should have partnered with them when they offered him the opportunity. That $250k could have been spent on luxury cars in the garage of his what-could-have-been mansion.

I would've done the same as you Dub, just imagine that guy who sold his operating system to Bill Gates for $50k only to have him turn around and become a billionaire when licensing it to IBM :p

Instead of a bit of cash I would always take the stock options in this day and age lol

And in answer to FB falling in popularity, I think that is because people are sick and tired of seeing and hearing about it, it is all well and good when you are talking privately with friends but nowadays you cannot do a damn thing on the internet without being forced to log into it and promote whatever you are commenting on. The people are getting pissed :p

Facebook is growing at a massive rate but I still doubt it can be the most dominant figure - it remains as one of the best social media places. But it just doesn't have everything if you ask me.

Oh, Faceboook. It's so damn popular that even in Google Search, when you type the letter 'F' in the search bar, the first word that pops out is Facebook. And Zynga, not to mention, handles most, if not all, the flash games in Facebook. And with over potentially 500 million people and counting logging into Facebook, I guess it's just the craze of the generation, for a momentary span o time, of course. because we humans possess this innate (in)ability to quickly depreciate the temporal things in this material world, such as facebook.. It's only a matter of time before Facebook ends up like Friendster..

on that note, there's still one sort-of-social networking site that will never lose popularity in the eyes of the depreciative social networker: Youtube :)

I agree. I don't understand why people think Facebook can do anything or even why Facebook is a threat to Google. I don't go on Facebook to find a particular site or search up something. Facebook is a platform yes, but it doesn't have everything. Facebook may be growing at a massive rate, but plenty of people use other sites at the same time...
