ok im looking at alexa rankings for a few sites and i look at detailed traffic chart and it shows the site in jan. with a flat line at zero and then in feb. it reached 20 million people then in march it moved to 10 million. How does this happen, what goes on?

Knowing the site might help. Maybe it was being developed in January, then in February it went live and they began a major marketing campaign.

Could be that the results are fabricated through automated means but if we don't know the URL it's hard to tell.
