.tv Expiring .tv name question

ok so you see a .tv in redemption period- it is going to drop soon. providing the owner does NOT renew:

1) can demand media never let the name drop and change it to a premium
2) if dm doesnt go after it is there a drop service for .tv- or are we on our own

No, you would get it the normal way.

If it is that good, I would bet dollars to demand that it would go premium.

Verisign makes the call to classify as a premium not Demand Media, they do not go to a drop service if they stay as non premium they will just be available and you can register the domain.

ohhhhhhhh ok- so verisign can see a name about to drop and say- no, we will keep this one?

why arent we all chipping in to get accredited with icann so we can do this too ;-(

Verisign owns the DOT TV corp they can do this because they run the registry, no one else could do this in .tv if they wanted to or were accredited. Verisign which did 1.6 Billion in sales for 06 did the deal with Demand Media to run the retail side and promote .tv because .tv is such a small part of Verisign overall.

I have found that there is great opportunity to grab expired names. I too am follwing one myself, just waiting and checking every single day to register it! If this helps, a name that were to become avialable to register today June 4th would have a whois expriation date early in April.

I think it may be more like 7-10 days before you can actually see it as available.
