Hey, this is a noob question. Theres a domain that is reg'd at network solutions and it will be expiring soon. What do I have to do to give myself the best chance at picking it up? I doubt anyone else has backordered it but I don't want to take any chances so i will gladly spend money backordering it at multiple sites although I don't know which sites are the best. If you were in my shoes what would you do?

The name will first be available for bidding at namejet.com

thanks for the reply. Is that like how domains reg'd at godaddy go to tdnam?

Correct, what namejet is to netsol, tdnam to godaddy

The domain name expired recently so I placed a back order via namejet on the day it expired. The same day it was renewed for one year. I have confirmed that the current owner did not renew it. Did Namejet renew it as part of the backorder/auction process or did I basically get scammed and they will keep the domain and try to sell it?

Thanks (as you can see I've been watching this domain for quite some time, I hope namejet is playing by the book).

It is likely that NetSol have renewed the name so that it does not drop. This guarantees that NameJet will auction the name. If the name dropped then it would have to go through the drop process proper, allowing other registrars to attempt to catch it.

This way NetSol can take a cut of the backorder monies from NameJet.

Expiring domains are provisionally renewed with the registry. But they have 45 days to change their mind and claim a refund from Verisign... That means, if the name receives no bids within that time frame they will cancel the renewal, the expiry date will go back one year and the name will enter redemption status.

In fact that's how the grace period works, the registrar has actually renewed the name with Verisign, otherwise it would enter redemption status upon expiry.

I am pretty confused now. Support made it sound like I wouldn't be able to bid for this domain until it expired next year so I gave up on it. Then several days ago I get an email saying its a "Pre-release" domain. I just checked and there is a bid on it as well. The deadline to bid is next month. So, does this mean:

1. Me and the other bidders have until the deadline to bid, the highest bidder wins the domain so long as the current owner doesn't renew it.

..or does it mean something else. Thanks in advance.
