question Expired porn domains

I've run into some expired .com domains that were apparently hosting foreign porn sites. (the domains are just random letters and don't scream porn.)

Would this be a good buy/investment? These are all recently expired domains so I only have to pay reg fee at my registrar.

I'd pretty much park the page for $ and/or stats and in 60+ days probably sell or auction the domains.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Did they have any relevant traffic? Alexa rank etc.? They may have been set to expire for a reason. If their value to you is purely in the traffic then I'd be prudent.

If they're good resales, any residual traffic is always a welcome addition of course.

I don't know that they have significant traffic, but they seem to have a lot of backlinks from outside domains (not their own site)... and these are 5 character domains (no vowels)... I think a bulk of the traffic is type in. I think the letters must mean something porn-related in Chinese.

My thinking is even without huge traffic, I could sell it to people who buy these types of domains.

Actually one if 4 characters (1 #)...this was definitely a build up porn site.

Well, I'll take a gamble and buy these two I've found. Just $16.

Thanks.

I'd be curious to see them once you complete the reg. A fastfood meal's worth is not a lot to gamble with for a potential xxx or x,xxx resale somewhere down the line - that's what makes domains so much fun to dabble in!

Good luck :xf.wink:

Whoa....HUGE mistake.
WARNING ALL DOMAINING NEWBIES!

Stupid me, the one step I didn't take was checking mxtoolbox to see if these sites were blacklistes. 106 results!

I tried parking these at Bodis like I do with my other domains. l3yn didn't have a problem but the other tries to send you to a malware site.

I contacted Namecheap support and immediately requested a refund on these blacklisted domains. I have a long list of hand-regged (non-blacklisted) domains to choose from. So they wont be losing their $18. I just don't want these two domains. And that's exactly what I told them! Hopefully they understand.

An important/relevant article I found through searching on this forum (which I think is the situation I'm in):
http://domainnamewire.com/2014/10/01/warning-do-you-know-where-your-parked-domain-traffic-is-going/

Apparently, people parking on Sedo were having this very problem recently. I've seen posts discussing this from yesterday!

This is the first time I did NOT hand-reg and this happens. lol
I found these through expireddomains.net
If I ever muster up the courage to buy expired domains... I will make sure to check mxtoolbox. Phew!

Update: NC is giving me a refund. This was their explanation of the malware:

Per our check, your domain names kjklg.com and l3yn.com are not blacklisted. The malware warnings that you see are usual Google warnings, which do not mean that the domains are blacklisted. In order to remove malware warning, please be advised to contact Google support.

So, I guess it's a Google thing.

For the record, NC does NOT typically issue refunds. They may go by a case by case basis, or maybe you have a power account, just don't want other people to see this and expect the same thing.
https://www.namecheap.com/support/k...-name-when-registering-can-you-issue-a-refund

There are plenty of registrars that DO offer Grace Delete as standard practice for certain TLDs only, an I'm sure there is an abuse policy in place at each also.

You can do lots of research, some good things to check
Archive.org - you can look at historical screenshots
https://web.archive.org/web/20160305175307/http://kjklg.com/

Hosting History - you can see dates of registrations and deletions
http://www.hosterstats.com/historicaldns.php?domain=kjklg.com

and see if it is banned from Google Adsense (both the above are banned from Google AdSense)

There are members here who specialize in buying traffic domains, I would study and ask a ton of questions in those threads first next time. : smile :

We were discussing isbanned on here not a week ago and it seems to list everything as banned. Even domains with absolutely no history... like my personal writing domain. Listed as banned even though no one ever owned that domain before me and all I do is blog. No newletter to spam people with, no affiliate links, no store selling anything. No way it's banned. I don't even have an email account set up with that domain. I believe someone looked up Google and other Google sites on isbanned...they were all listed as banned.

I did use wayback machine... thats how I saw they were former Chinese porn sites.

Weird, NC didn't give me any problem at all about refunds. They offer refunds within 72 hours after purchase. After that... good luck.

Too bad for the blacklist. A very valuable lesson and a good ending to it, though! From what I saw in the extended whois history, both were formerly regged to people owning 20k+ and 5k+ domains respectively.. Looks like a big operation if this was a traffic farm.

Thanks for bringing that up. I've been meaning to ask about this.
When I see who owns a domain in the WhoIs lookup... how do I check what else that person owns? Just search their name on the WhoIs site?

Yeah, name, mail or other identifiers can be used to find a (semi complete) list. It's called doing a reverse-whois lookup, since you're reversing the process of typing in a domain and finding out who owns it.

The name of the domain is cryptomoneymarketing.com please advice is highly appreciated.

You should check the domain on Way Back Machine (Archive.org) to see the history of it. Check the domain also, with tools such as Ahrefs and Moz for anchors and backlinks the domain may or may not have. This will give you an insight into whether the domain is spammed to bits. The registrar in most cases won't give you a refund because the domain has a bad history.

Happy Christmas! :)
