Expired Domains and the Google Sandbox

Hi,

1. I was wondering what the real deal is with this. Many people are saying that to avoid the Google sandbox for your new site you should buy an expired domain that has been registered for at least a year. This should keep you out of the sandbox.

However, I have also heard that even if you do buy an expired domain, once you change even one character in the whois info Google treats it as if it were a newly registered "virgin" domain and therefore you will still be put in the sandbox. Since you are a new owner you will need to change the whois info according to ICANN rules so it would be the same as just registering a "virgin" domain.

Can anyone verify what the truth is?

2. What is the best way to find out if an expired domain you are thinking of buying has been banned/blacklisted by Google?

Thanks in advance.

I have a hard time believing that nobody here has any experience with this, but I could be wrong.

With a new domain, develop it with good seo , put a lot of content like articles, create some links over the net, and it should spread your site on search engines in few weeks.

And google isnt the only one on net.

I understand that but my question was about Google and the Google sandbox.

While there are other SEs Google is the one that will make your domain/site worth more if you can get ranked and avoid the sandbox.

Besides, you forgot to add B&P in that mix. Blogging and Pinging is a very powerful for getting your site crawled and indexed fast.

Affiliate sites are generally sandbaoxed due to the nature of the outgoing links Googlebot finds on the site. If you are planning on developing ANY kind of affiliate site you may be able to avoid the sandbox by using javascript re-directs for every outbound link on your site. The robot will not follow these.

I have done a lot of experimenting with this for clients and that's my *current* view.
