Now I know that there are certain timeframes that a domain goes through before anyone can even register it once it has expired. Now I have a domain at another registrar and I had someone buy it for me (big mistake I will never make again) but then all of sudden his account was deleted and the domain was locked by the registrar so I can't transfer it now. I was thinking about just grabbing once it expired and then it would be fine but once a domain expires could I just register it that day at my current registrar and not have any or maybe a small amount of downtime?

Once a domain has been registered and used the Registration Site
figures it's worth something more than it original price and they hold it
and try to sell it for more bucks if it isn't renewed..

You say they deleted his acct. and locked it?
If it hasn't expired yet log in with you're user=pass and you should
be able to unlock it.
If you paid for it and it's still good then you still own it and control it
untill the experation date as long as they don't recognize the person
you sold it to as the persom who controls it.
PS, what site was it Registered at??

It was registered at hostway who is a reseller of AAAQ.com but the problem is that my friend says that he can't login and I can trust him. If I were to contact them and ask them to unlock it without an account do you think they would do it?

i think they will do it if you give them something eg, identification card or something other that prove you're the owner of that login :)

Yeah well somebody else registered it for me so I would have to ask him to do it. Would I be able to register it the day that it expires at my current registrar or would I have to wait?

It will go through a redemption period, then a hold period - where the rightful owner can renew. Then it goes through a "pending delete" phase before it's released into the market again.

I think it usually takes about 75 days from the expiration date until the time it becomes fully available again.

During all of these periods does the domain remain fully functional until it is deleted?

It depends on the registrar, sometimes it can still be live during the registrar hold period but after that I'd say bye bye.

You asked if you could just reg it when it expires at your registrar, well you might be able to but if its a good name it will be snapped and backordered, you wouldnt have a chance getting it by hand then.

They obviously locked your friend out for a reason so I cant see them giving him access unless he clears up the problem.

Na it is nothing good just my website name not anything premium but once they let go of it during the hold period then I would able to register it again then correct? Sorry for all of these questions just want to be sure.
