I just picked up Expatriate.org.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the word, it is a term to describe an individual who resides outside of his or her country of birth.

It receives 90.5k global monthly searches and was registered in 1996.

What do you think?

It's a nice term for a community site, as expatriates are quite active online.

Being one for most of my life, I quite like the name. But they don't sell for a lot, especially in non-.coms. OverseasLiving.com just went on Namejet for a mere $133.

While expats can be a good market for insurance and investments, they tend to be very diverse and mobile. An expat from the US will have very different concerns than an expat from the UK, particularly with taxes. And a US expat in Japan will have very different concerns/interests than a US expat in France or Thailand. I have never had use for a general expat site, but have used sites focused on particular locations or issues. So better to focus on a particular market, which means only a portion of those search numbers.

On the other hand, there is increasing interest among Americans in expatriating, and the domain can be read as a noun or an action verb. A lot of investment schemes are touting expatriation (of people and assets).

I'm thinking low xxxx, though I would be happy with high xxx.

The name did sell for $2601 on Snapnames in July 2007, so that's always worth mentioning to a buyer.

First and foremost, I appreciate the detailed response.

You are not the first person to tell me that it's too generic and I do agree that something more niche would likely be easier to build out.

Side note, I will be an expat next year as well. I'm very excited to begin something new.

This is a good name. However the extension may make it a bit harder to find a buyer. I would say low $x,xxx.

There are many forums where people discuss the problems related to life in foreign countries and help each other. I think, it would be better to develop it...

And the extension is a big plus, just brand it as a social organisation meant to help every person... "Non-profit"

I like it, I think it suits the .org extension too - I would price it at low to mid $X,XXX leaning towards the higher end of that price.

I definitely agree. I think the .org fits the keyword better than the .com. As always, there is concern about leaking traffic to the .com.

Thanks for your input!

I'm definitely surprised everyone is in the same ballpark. :)

As domainace mention about the 2007 sale. Plus the dot net sold for $1190

Mid $xxxx to the right end user. Good Luck
