Anyone else profited from today's (July 4th) slitch in the Sunrise rejected domain registration?

Starting Tuesday June 7th, 2006 after 11.00 Belgian time EURid releases these domains for registration every Tuesday for a couple of weeks.

Between 10.00 and 11.00 the domain registration module for registrars is therefore disabled to set the status of these domains to available, without anyone being able to register them before 11.00.

Today EU-registrar MyWWW.nl by accident found out EURid may have forgotten to switch off the registration module during the hour before the release at 11.00 and registered:

http://www.kf.eu/

for me between 10.28 and 10.33 Belgian time.

kf.eu is in fact a nice 2 letter .eu domain. Anyone else profited from this and how?

Dammit :td: Wish i knew about this!
I don't think anyone specificly knew about this and the kf.eu reg is just a lucky strike.

By the way do you know why this phantom registrar company ''Ovidio Limited'' managed to reg so many domains that where just coming out of the application pendings status?

Well here is the explanation first in Dutch second in English:

Security.nl said:

English:

Domain hijackers have possibly abused a leak in the system of EURid for massively registering eu domain names which have been released after the first and second sunrise phase or still are being to released.

During the first and second sunrise phase trademark name holders etc. could already claim a .eu domain. Not all claims have been however granted, where upon non-granted domains will be released.

EU registrars normally does not know which domainnames are being released. Because of the leak in the EURid system it is however possible to download the complete database of 2 millions .eu domain names. Including the domains that are coming out of application pending status.

The discoverer of this leak has informed EURid, and got that to hear one would solve the problem immediately. A week later the information is still available for everyone who asks, what explains the result of why domain hijackers as Ovidio managed to register so many domainnames, according to Jonas Eriksson.

No chance in hell anyone can register a domain. If you do manage to obtain one considder yourself very VERY lucky.

Thanks for replying. The 10.00 to 11.00 kf.eu registration today should not be confused with the downloading of the list of 2 million .eu domain names as described on on security.nl

I don't know about Ovidio Limited. The only thing i've seen when checking domains that were relaeased after June 7, 2006 is that the majority of good domains are registered by a minority of users.

I simply found http://www.kf.eu to be released on July 4 by checking 26 x 26 two letter combination .eu's manually :)

Thanks guys! Indeed the succesful registration of kf.eu made me smile all day long.

As far as I understand my registrar, he was logging in to his EURid registration panel and noticed that the registration interface was active (although it is supposed to be inactive on Tuesday's between 10.00 and 11.00 Belgian time).

He just registered http://www.kf.eu manually.

b.t.w. Anyone knows a nice k.... f..... meaning for it? Or should i leave it blank for development later?

.

now i think about it, this really sucks and has cost me a lot of money. I had great lists of names lined up but thanks to eurid's bungle now everybody knows all the names that are expiring.

names I could have got with 200 euro bids I now have bid 1000 euro and it's hardly worth it.

even if Ovidio's names are cancelled, so what. will only now be possible to pick them up at sky-high prices.

Yes, now you have maybe 0,001 percent chance to obtain a .eu domain in upcoming weekly landrushes because of this "contribution" by Eurid.
It already was difficult since there are so many hands so to speak grabbing for highly desired domains and not that many domains.

Compared to the initial landrush where there where tons of good domains available and it truly was a race. Not a very fair one regarding the phantom registrars that where cutting in line everytime but there where enough people that did obtain some nice domains. Including myself.

To the OP:

I noticed this article that you may find interesting.
Someone had his eyes on KF.eu as well :)

The whole .eu landrush was completely corrupt. It was corrupt due to the incompetence of Eurid and the morons in the European Commission and their "advisors" who were completely ignorant about the way that the domain business works.

Statistically, given that there .eu was less than a million domains at the time, there were chances that people could get good domains. However the research I've been doing shows that much of the premium landrush domains have been taken by organised cyberwarehousing operations such as those run by Ovidio and others.

Unfortunately it is in Dutch. However I just don't trust Eurid when it comes to anything to do with domains. These are the people, after all, who launched a registry system without a working transfer system. Though it is interesting that Eurid would put Ovidio's domains on hold but leave the other cyberwarehoused domains alone. Some of the domains registered by the Ovidio syndicate could be very problematic for the people behind it.
