In speaking with account reps at both Sedo and Moniker, it seems that Uniques and Worth are part of an equasion that also involves click through.
At one point, I had several hundred uniques a day but very little click through. something like .0x %. So in that case, 500 Us a day is pretty much worthless to "an investor". I'll get back to why I put that in quotes in a second....
Consequently, today I am getting a click through of around 3% - 5% on my ads and 33% of my search customers. My Us are closer to 900 on a good day and around 300-400 on the average. Us haven't changed much but the value has certainly changed.
So back to the Quotes...
I've learned another very interesting little tidbit through this whole process. The words "buyer" and "end user" have been consistently been used, sometimes interchangedly, on this forum.
Here's a VERY IMPORTANT point in seeking value here in this forum or at reseller sites like Sedo, Moniker, etc.
These people are PARKING REVENUE orientated. They are "Investors". The worth of a site is directly related to the PPC revenue it makes or has the potential to make. Visitors are an important number, Uniques are a big part of that but REPEAT users are important too. The domains are more about LLLL than a "word" or a domain with meaning. So if you are currently doing good numbers that are generating revenues and high uniques, then the value will be based on some number (.10 cents to a buck) per visitor for X number of years. That's how an Investor might look at your value.
As opposed to... an "End User"
End Users are why you see the Big Dollar sales on dnJournal all the time. These guys are looking at the domain as a "Brand" and if your domain furthers their brand or business model and has lots of traffic, they you are a given sales tool. One that they would spend hundres of thousands of dollars in developing OR just give you the $100K and be done with it.
Sure, sometimes there is a blur between the two and sometimes Investors buy big dollar domains because they HOPE to sell it to a brand later down the road.
But... in general... the people that will be commenting on your domain and its worth are those that are jusding its current or perceived traffic value for PPC/affiliate revenues.
Forgive my rambling. I'm new here too. But I've found so far that what WE think we are being told about value and worth... is all a matter of perspective. Consider WHO is valuating your site when considering their opinion.
I've been offered $100 for my site. I've been offered $500 for it. I've been offered $2500 for it. I've also been TOLD to sell for $25K, $50K... up to a $Million. I've been appraised at $75K and at $400K. I've also been told that the site isn;t worth selling. SAME SITE. Go figure.
We tend to hang on to the high bids and forget about the low bids... hey, we're human. But in the end, it only takes ONE person that loves your domain and gives you a price that YOU are happy with.
Good luck!
