Everyone
Well, it looks like many of the Europeans here will be bailing out for a while to have our summer holidays over the next few weeks.
Hopefully, most of us can still keep in contact, but the reality is that if you are going on holiday - GO ON HOLIDAY, and stop checking in on Namepros every 10 minutes.
And enjoy yourselves.
For me, I’m afraid I may have to cut back on Namepros for a good few weeks also. There is a holiday on the cards, but the project we are working on is going into a fairly intensive period and I’m actually needed for once in my life (normally I’m surplus). Who knows, I may even be useful to our bIG plan.
Officially we are in ‘stealth mode’ (not that anyone would even notice if we weren’t in stealth mode anyway), but it does sound brilliant. In fact, I’ll say it again because it sounds so ‘James Bond-ish’ - We are in STEALTH mode! Wonderful.
All I can say before I check out is that we are building something that, if it comes off, will be £$%&ing wonderful and relevant for the ‘viewer’, spot-on to the needs of the advertiser, and financially lucrative for the film-maker or citizen journalist.
I have spent lots of time with some of the senior players in the internet TV industry (Nigel Dacre, Iolo Jones, Mark Dodson, etc), listened to their versions of the future, and set off on a route to create my own version of what it is ‘all about’. In a few months from now I expect to have made my dream come true - or I could be wandering around these threads letting everyone who will listen know that ‘I could have been a contender’.
Only time will tell, and it should tell fairly fast.
The main thing is that I am having fun doing something useful and different and the guys I’ve to spend time with are funny, and fun, in the gaps between working hard and working harder. The fact that only one of the team is actually making a proper wage from the coffers and the rest rely on already having other jobs, makes it all the more ‘nice’. People being in place because they want to be, can understand their role exactly, know how to use their skills effectively, and see the FULL plan clearly. These are truly the days of summer!
My concern for all here, however, is that we don’t all get too wrapped up in the singularity of some geo names. Yes, they are wonderful, but don’t make them the be all and end all of your portfolio.
Technology changes all the time and we are starting to see a change in user expectations about the content they are seeing when they arrive on a website/internetTVchannel.
Eighteenth, nineteenth and Twentieth century humans came to expect things in a certain order. Even when technological change came about, people still tried to keep some semblance of what came before. People have laptops (because that’s what they are) but started off having ‘notebooks’ or ‘powerbooks’ because marketeers understood the human need for familiarity. A book, we all understood a book - so make you computer like a ‘book’ - even though it’s nothing like a book.
Today, change is too quick for many marketing nuances to be employed, and people are thinking, working and doing, at a different level. This forum, for example, is such a good example of wikinomics in action. All who come here benefit - and the ones who benefit the most are the ones who participate. Our new project is all about harnessing this new way of thinking.
Sorry if I’m going on too much, but the fact is simple - we’re working on something I am that excited about I want to tell my friends here. But, like Pandora’s Box, once it’s opened, you can’t put a lid on it again.
One of the major parts of this journey so far has been my time here at Namepros. Made all the more interesting by the fascinating people I have dealt with, spoken to, argued with, invested in, partnered with, and most of all - who I’ve become friends with.
I may be more of a fleeting visitor for the next few weeks. Hopefully, when summer is over I will have interesting news.
If not, treat me nice, ‘I coulda been somebody’.
