We are a Network Service Company which is the domain name registration center in Shanghai, China. On Feb 6, 2015, we received an application from (a leading China Based company Name is mentioned here) Ltd requested "mydomainname mentioned here" as their internet keyword and China (CN) domain names. But after checking it, we find this name conflict with your company name or trademark. In order to deal with this matter better, it's necessary to send email to you and confirm whether this company is your distributor or business partner in China?

Kind regards

China Registry (Headquarters)

Could someone guide me what it means as a domain owner? I have had the .com domain for over 6~7 years now with a developed website on it.

Ok from what I read across the internet this is an email scam. Not sure what the scam is but I find similar threads across the web. But in my case there is no offer to registration of domains etc so not really sure if its a scam or a genuine email.

Yes it's a scam. Ignore it.

There are other variations of this as well. One where they ask you to "complete the registration" or "register with search engines".

Registry's rarely contact domain owners, any disputes would be done via your registrar and clearly there's no dispute here. End users will contact you directly or through a recognized broker, etc.
