I just installed ELGG on a social networking idea I want to develop. Does anyone have experience with ELGG and its flexibility and plugins?

I've tried BuddyPress and I get a lot of spam on there or maybe its just using BlueHost. But BuddyPress was not really a social network, meaning it doesn't focus on the profiles - which ELGG does.

Any experiences, recommendations, or advice for ELGG would be appreciated. Thanks!

I setup a social network using ELGG. It had a limited target audience and was always going to be a hard sell. It got flooded with spam. I never could figure out how to reduce the spam. At least in phpBB, you can ask "intelligent" questions whilst registering which basically reduced the spam to zero, because they cannot register. If there had been something like that for ELGG, I probably would have still been running my limited social network today. I liked ELGG as a social network platform, but it's security with registrations left a lot to be desired.

Thanks! I had the same problem when I tried PLIGG on BlueHost, it also got overrun by SPAM. That's what sucks about free open source software I guess.
