As Oscar Wilde once said : "What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing." Lpspider, I'm not calling you {sadly, many NPer's do it :(} a cynic, per say, but simply appraising anything at simply "reg fee" is about as useless as a post can be. Sadly, it has become standard practice around here, it seems :td: I myself, generally at least, don't do appraisals, as it is the end-buyer who decides that, and a fool is any man who thinks he can do it often with much accuracy (Abraham Lincoln: "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."). But, if you say you don't think it worth much of a value (and reg fee is a value), why not tell the requesting member why? Help them learn, or atleast give them a perspective. Put thought into what you say. OK, well "reg fee" is a thought, but it is one not requiring thinking on the issue. Dentalpro has that as his/her first NP post. Does that not at least tell you that he/she might just be totally new to the domainer's game? If they are, "reg fee" was a great lesson...not! Help others make better decisions, by explaining your answers; otherwise, you're wasting space and confusing them. Not to count, you may be both making them think NP is a rude place (it is not, by far) & making them think they don't belong among the membership (we are all newbies at one time).

Just things :imho:

Dentalpro,

Like I said above, I generally don't give appraisals. And, even when I do, I'm not as much of an experienced domainer as many here, so I'll leave that to others. But.....Welcome to NamePros, by the way!

Reg fee, these would definitely need to be developed to attain any value.

thanks for the words of wisdom Maximum...I have already noticed by reading here for a few days and reading the "chat" room for half an hour (high school kids talking about getting in trouble was the topic) so I'm taking the opins. here with a grain of salt...I know better than to think an 8 letter .com with meaning and a huge global following is "reg. fee". Especially when a closely related name just went for 50k.

thanks to DA for your time also...most names these days need to be developed...there are very few "pure" parking names available...the public will be tired soon too of constantly ending up at parked pages...most names "should" be developed.

Ronnie,

ty for saying so ;)

----------------------

Dentalpro,

Well, you do know a bit there B-) You're absolutetly right about parked pages. Few names, in themselves, can sustain that long, especially as users get more and more of them in their browsers. Eventually, they will revolt against the advertisers; hence, killing the parking services, when parked pages become more popular among domainers. Sadly, domainers don't seem to see it heading that way. But most users will stop making it worth it in the end. Type-in traffic leading to parked ads will, as domainers make it more commonplace, become in the view of the web-public like spam. That can only be bad in the end. Few names will survive that, and still end-up making good parking revenue. It would work great for the media.com's and music.tv's of the world (and simular domains....those just off top of my head, but no coincidence a fellow NPer owns them both). But, when you start adding the acb74gn.com's and fredsplace.info's of the world to the parking zones, that will devalue the services in the eyes of the public (and hence, in the end, to us as domainers). :imho:

I agree wholeheartedly with the third post. Let's say you listen to a song and then instantaneously blurt out, "this sucks." When asked why, you say, "Because it does." If you have no reason for your belief, your words are null, void, and nonexistent. If you think something sucks, you better as hell be able justify yourself -- to explain WHY you say as you do -- and not merely stand behind your wafer-thin words.

In this case, if you say a domain has no value YET you don't explain WHY you think as you do, your words will hold no weight.

On that thought, I'll give you a REAL appraisal, with fact rather than spitting out an uneducated guess.

I mention 'uneducated' because I don't believe the second poster applied any logic to his 'appraisal.' That could be because he is a newbie or he might have a thing against anything that deals with homosexuals -- I don't know. But that's beside the point. The domains aren't as close to egay.com as you think they are. In fact, they are far, FAR from them. Now: car.com and cars.com are very close (one-word, one with a suffix). But egay.com and egaylife.com & egaylifestyle.com are not close at all, seeing as they have multiple words rather than just a simple prefix/suffix differentiating them. Keep that in mind.

The domains have the 'e' prefix. I dunno who in the House of Ideas dreamt this up, but domains with that prefix are generally of lesser value than those without them.

What I see are two domains that could easily fetch $xxxx or higher developed but undeveloped, they are both considerably lower in value. If you found someone who wanted to develop them, they could go for $xxx I'm thinking but selling them to a so-called investor (a person who'd ask you to sell them cheap in hopes of selling them for more later; 99% of everyone in this forum is in that majority), then you might not see $10.

Oh, and as mentioned above, appraisals are just estimates. They shouldn't be taken as fact but as ideas. Only the potential buyers can determine the value. BUT appraisals are helpful, still - they give the owners an idea. In this game of uncertainty, that's really all one can hope for.
