I have recently sold 3 domains on eBay, and it went a lot better than I had imagined.

I'm wondering if eBay really is the best place to sell domains or would Sedo be the best place, my gut says Sedo since it's a site dedicated to the business and I'm going to test it out, but it's hard to test since you can't auction the same domain on 2 sites.

Any one has any thoughts on this?

Sedo seems to be a venue which delivers more consistent results for good domains.

eBay can be somewhat random at times with bad domains sometimes going for large sums of money. Short domains (such as unpronounceable LLLL.coms, 5L.coms, LLLL.nets) and recently registered domains sometimes sell much better on eBay, often being unlikely to get an offer on Sedo and also not being of great interest to Sedo's members. You do have to be careful about listing on eBay however -- if one of the eBay domain powersellers lists 100+ which end on a particular day, it can really drive down the price anyone gets for domains in that same market segment.

ebay is good to dump names for a few bucks if your that kind of domainer.

all the obama08pressidentyear.com domains for $100,000 lol type of names sour alot of people to ebay for domains

also all the ebay listing that wont tell you the name until you click the auction is a pain in the bottom.

The best thing about ebay is every so often they have a ten cent list auction day, thats when you can list a name for sale on ebay and if you sell it great, if not it only cost a dime.

It looks like there are some sellers on ebay that sell tons of domains every week, but are only getting a few bucks for them. I'm pretty new to this and it doesn't make much sense to me. How can someone profit from selling a name for $5?

its not so much that there making a profit, its that they have giving up on the name and they hope it sells for a profit but if it sells for only 5 buck its better than just deleting the name.

Should that be an indicator that that name is probably a waste of time, even though some look more or less decent?

I am selling domains on ebay for more than a year and I made lot of profit....
I also posted my domains on sedo, but no luck...
You have to wait for somebody to offer on your domain on sedo.....Its very hard to get offer on sedo..as it is like a fish in a ocean.....
On ebay,,,,just 3-5 days...you can make a bunch of profit...

If you have a low selling/potential domain, consider it selling on ebay otherwise...list on sedo and wait.....

What about Afternic.com, or moniker.com, namejet, or snap names... I was thinking of joining Afternic.com.

James do you mind sharing your eBay name. I would love to look at your auctions to get ideas unless you prefer not to share of course.

I dont mind sharing my name... I had 765 feedback and was a power seller until ebay blocked my account..so I am using other account for now...... They dont have any good seller protection programs for digital products.. I hate that...

I think sedo should probably be better for more valuable domains, because if you try to sell them on ebay, then top domain hunters might be less likely to see them. Since Sedo is specifically designed for domains, I would go for them unless I'm trying to sell a domain worth less than the registration fee in which case I would sell it on ebay.

It depends on what "a lot better than I imagined" means, and how much money you made.
I can't really imagine in any way that Ebay sells more domains of quality than Sedo, or could come even close come in terms of dollars.
IMHO

Yea Frank, I actually have been noticing that eBay is more of a investors market. I feel that eBay is a great place to buy domains instead of selling them. Then again, I've seen cases of people selling domains in $XX,XXX. I'm not sure as of now if I want to continue the eBay route.

I was thinking of posting on sedo, and then if nothing happens there in certain amount of time, to liquidate the domain on eBay.
