EBay Snatches Up StumbleUpon

It's acquisition week in Silicon Valley. Yesterday CBS acquired Last.fm and now eBay has announced it will acquire StumbleUpon, the social bookmarking/search engine service, for $75 million.

Some how this doesn't suprise me any great idea isn't willing to turn away the big companys. I kinda wish one company would stand up and say back off google and yahoo and even ebay with skype and now this.

What feels dirty about that is they still take "sponsorships" at SU even after a nice $75mil exit... eBay needs donations now? Can't even pay by PayPal last time I checked...

i think 75 million is a bit low for stumble upon.
i think it deserves more.

What I find funny is that ebay is finally realising that screwing over their original site is costing them so much that they now have to turn to buying sites like stumbleupon before the disastrous decisions they made on ebay cause their profitability to go south.

Not sure if this is related, but my stumbleupon advertising campaign has been increasingly rapid in its depletion, and decreasingly impressive in its converting.

All in all, eBay only further disappoints me if the slowdown is related to the purchase

So no e-Bay has paid this amount of money they are going to be busier than ever. Or at least they will have to be in order to cover the costs of everything. Pardon my ignorance but is this stumbleupon supposed to be in competition with overture as THE search engine of the decade?

No, just go check out stumbleupon.com , but it's basically a "community-based" browser - similar to a digg or del.icio.us that keeps folks moving randomly through the sites much faster.
