I haven't bid on eBay until recently. I bid on a LLL.com and lost to many other higher bids. Now I'm getting at least 4 or 5 emails from the 'supposed' seller saying the winning bidder failed to pay and my offer would be accepted IF I follow the instructions carefully.

It requires a payment through Western Union. The email looks legit as it comes from eBay but it's clearly a con.

BEWARE people - eBay is thriving with crooks.

Too true!! Weston Union has to be the worst payment method ever aswell and would never consider using it.

On the other hand hope Leeds win the Playoff final Palace fan here hope you beat Watford im sure you know who i'll be cheering on!!

The most common scam is somebody posts an auction. They get their mate to massively inflate the price and keep bidding. Then you end up losing out because their mate has bid so high. Then they send you the second chance offer because you have upped your bid because of their mate.

That AND Western Union... the whole thing stinks! Shill bidding and fraud. Nice!

You bid as high as you did because you were willing to pay that much. If they send you a second chance offer, you do not have to accept it. If you do, you actually get the item. The other second chance offer scam is where you pay some random guy who doesn't even have the item you want. You end getting nothing after you paid for it. I would rather be a victim of shill bidding than the second chance offer thing.

I have had this EXACT problem on ebay 3 times in the last week and a half (probably on the same names matt, I know you and I have similar tastes!) It really pi**es me off! The shill bidding is happening all the time on ebay with eastern sellers and it's extremely frustrating. I have lost out on domains costing $xxxx by $x too many times of late...

That is why I only bid ONCE or up to the minimum $ and don't proxy bid. If someone outbids me I wait till the last day and then up the bid IF it is still reasonable.

I had a second chance offer on a name and I took it. No probs and I paid through paypal. They might have upped the bid by $1.00 but I still bought the domain for what I wanted to pay in the end.
