Hi fellows,

I'm trying for first time to sell a domain of my portfolio over eBay, it's "hollywood-stories.com". A free appraisal estimated it's value at between 50k and 75k, although I'm selling it from 40k (and probably will lower it, depends). I won't post the URL to the auction, as that would be kind of spamming and I've already posted the proper announcement in the right forum (external auctions one).

How's your experience working with eBay and escrow.com?
What's the recommended min. bid setting for a mid-high profile domain name?
Ever sold a domain name over eBay for more than 10k?
Any recommendation?

Many thanks in advance,
cheers.

The domain was JesusX.com. I obviously contacted lots of church organizations and sort of played off the popularity of The Davinci Code and related controversy :) Yeah, I'm going to Hell... But anyway, only about 3 bidders I believe, I expected a lot more, but I'm sure most of the people I contacted probably didn't know what a domain was, even though I used the whois admin info... Those that did bid apparently have never used Ebay, because they had to create new accounts in order to bid. The zero feedback may have turned off other prospective buyers, but I verified them to make sure they were serious bidders. Ended up going to a large metropolitan church group.

I have had no luck (or success) on Ebay, but have found some great deals. From a seller's standpoint I think you'd do better to take it to Fabulous or Snap or even (grimmace) Sedo. Personally, the dash-scares-me.

Well after posting the domain for appraisal on another forum and getting a few offers by people who didn't want to see the domain used for the wrong purposes, I realized that end users would probably feel the same way, and pay a lot more... It's just a matter of finding the right angle when an opportunity presents itself.

Unfortunately, I haven't made any comparable sales. Made a couple small sales since, but I haven't had any names that I could get a finger on as far as direct marketing goes. I think I have some domains with real potential to end-users, it's just proving difficult to find the right audience/angle. I've been kind of lazy also since the first sale, not focusing on direct marketing, so maybe I need to really try it again.

I have sold 2 DNs on Ebay.

SentHome.com for $53.00 (I've been paid however I still own it 'cause the buyer has yet to give me his info, I've asked like 5 times)

BuffettBillions.com $17.53

When I auctioned SentHome.com I e-mailed 100 possible end-users w/ a link to the auction.

When I acutioned BuffettBillions I did not e-mail any end-users.

I had 0 feedback at the time too so that may have brought down the sale price.

I was expecting more for SentHOme.com and wasn't sure what I would get for BuffettBillions.com. I really just happy that I made my first two sales:)
