I have never submitted sites to search engines before and looking at some of the progams available I feel overwhelmed. Does anyone know of a simple, quick way of submission? Thanks.

Nobody "registers sites with search engines" any more - that went out with the 1990's. Any program that claims to do so is at best a waste of money and at worst a scam. Half of those "search engines" will be lame directories that will do your site little to no good.

1) Register your site with webmaster tools (Google and Bing)
2) Create and upload a sitemap
3) Get a couple of links to your site.

Thanks, enlytend. I appreciate the guidance. I was submitting some urls to Google and on a few of them I forgot the www. (did use the http:// though). Does anybody know if they will accept them in this form? If not, how do I correct or remove them and re-add? I also submitted a url that is not the website it will be when finished. Can I delete it? Thanks.

If your website contains a robots.txt file which also points to a sitemap file, is this step still required (understanding it may take longer for Google etc to crawl your site)?

No, but webmaster tools has good feedback and gives you a heads up if it spots any problems crawling the site.

Won't be a problem, as long as that resolves to your site.

It doesn't hurt to submit directly to Google etc. like that, but getting a link or two would be just as effective - probably more so.

I was originally asking about search engine submission, but I'd also be interested in directory submission.

If you only submit your sitemap that would help you getting your website indexed.

The fastest way is to include your link on a page that is popular (hint: NamePros). This will get your site indexed even faster than submitting to Google direct. Just use the www version will do just fine =)

Thanks for the idea. Can links using www. be used anywhere on NP?

Well
the easiest way in my view would be to pay people submit your sites to the directories

alternatively, try increasing your backlinks

Sitemaps

Hi there,

I would second the advice of others on the forum suggesting that submitting a sitemap via webmaster tools & registering your site with relevant directories is the best way to get your site indexed by major search enginges.

To increase and maintain a high SERP ranking however I would suggest a well thought out process of constant, relevant content creation and energetic, authentic content distribution (social media, linkbuilding etc)

The google algorithm indexes every website with a date or a simular value. If you copied some content from other websites google will find out with a check of the indexing date. Some infractions of this kind and google will kick your website out of there index - mostly for ever!

Hope it will be useful info for your request.
