Dynadot down for 'scheduled maintenance' during the drop?

Dynadot just went down for scheduled maintence during the drop hour!

I guess, this is related only to their website... and doesn't have any impact on backorders or API.

Nevertheless, it significantly impacted my workflow. The message on their home page said, "scheduled maintenance". Dynadot goes down for 'scheduled maintenance' a little too often, far more than any other registrar I've seen. And the drop hour is not the time for scheduled maintenance!

Their maintenance usually takes no more than few minutes.

It was around 10 minutes, which is a very long time during the critical 60 - 75 minutes of the drop.

No registrar should schedule maintenance during the drop hour. It's just not professional, and I'm sure it affected a great deal of users who rely on Dynadot.

I still don't understand...

API and backorders are served separately by Dynadot, using another servers/infrastructure.

It's not. I was trying to register some names the standard way (no API, no backorder), and this process was disrupted.

Use their API... It is very simple like 2+2...
No other solution here.

if i use API, I will probably use another registrar. Dynadot's API is slow (though much better than hand-reg).

my point here is that no registrar should schedule maintenance during the drop hour. that's all

I'm not sure it's actual maintenance they're performing when they show that.

A while ago when there were all these .co promos I got the message a lot. It usually showed for under a minute and made me think it's more likely they couldn't handle the load and this is their default 'error' message.

Haha yeah I lived through it too. Def a wtf moment but I'm logged into other registrars just in case.
