Dumb question about parking and minisites

Can someone please confirm that parking and a minisite are mutually exclusive? E.g., I'm presuming you can't have a parked "site", even if it consists of just the landing page (since the parking company will no longer be able to get any revenue off people clicking on the ads) - is that true?

Also, I'm assuming here that for average names (not ones that easily get type-ins), a one-page landing site, no matter how worthless it is, would still be more profitable than sticking with parking - can someone confirm or deny that?

Thanks in advance,
George

It is incorrect to say "parking site". You can have a parked domain name though, which is in fact a one page (mini)site. Usually domain registrars provide a free parked page for every domain that their customers purchase. If you want your own site (one page or more), you will have to pay for a hosting account!

Hence why I said "parking site" - I wasn't sure if you could have a one-page minisite and still have it parked. But thanks for your feedback!

Next question is - is it worth paying for hosting for a one-page site, or would it be more profitable to stick with regular parking?

Some hosting companies will allow you to host unlimited domains within even their smallest plan. Search and you'll find...

You can have a one-page site for free. It is usually called "Starter Web Page". You can change format and colors and put your own data here like some text, address and your email. But you are not allowed to place HTML code. I would recommend to not publish your email as it'll easily become victim of spammers data mining bots.

When you purchase hosting account nobody would limit you how many pages would you have. If you want to have your own customizable content though, you would have to move beyond the free parked page.

What your are talking about can be called
One Page WebSite / MiniSite /Mini WebSite
All the same thing NONE of Which is a PARKPAGE

Parkpage Usually just consists
Domain Name
A list of Hopefully relevant Ads
A Link to a Buy/Offer Page for the name
And Sometimes a Categorised listing of other parked names
Examples of which can be seen everywhere

Example of different MiniSite's
http://MiniSite.info
http://bloggerspace.info
Which all need hosting yes ,but with Hosting at very low prices ,you can host 100's of minisites for a couple of dollars

However, there most probably will be limit on how many domains you can host. Not with all hosting companies, though; only most of them.

Right, well, that answers it all, I guess! Thanks to everyone who contributed - I'm somewhat torn at the moment between simply peddling in domains and setting up minisites for greater revenue.

Thanks again!

Parking is great since it is so easy to set up - but like you said its hard to get much traffic if you dont have any history to the domain or if it isnt an easy type in.

Parking is always the best start. You can also make a Mini page within another site of yours promoting your domain name. This will generate intereste in both your domain name and add visitors to your parked page as well.
