Criteria (in TOS) for regging a .us:

Has to be a U.S. Citizen

OR​

Have a business presence/contact in the US

OR​

Living in the US (whether a citizen or foreign national)​

Neustar takes this very literally and vigorously enforces this rule.

Just Google the sad saga of Video.us.

It may seem unfair, but it's the rule.

I, as a US citizen with no presence in Asia, can't reg a dot-asia, so I suppose this works both ways.
