I think one of them actually has 2 separate cores while the other emulates it or something. :P

A laptop will rarely have the power of a desktop PC due to energy saving tips.

There the same thing, the difference is Core 2 Duo is an Intel brand name for a product, but its still a dual core chip. Its the same thing as X2 for AMD, its just what they each call there dual core chips. And if you want to know which is better, that depends on what you want to use it for, but as always its just a matter of opinion.

Core 2 Duos are definitely better. They are based on the 65nm architecture and that means lesser heat, suck lower power, and better overclockability.

Core 2 Quadro is the worlds fastest processor. C2D is next to it :)

I disagree with you Bill. Currently Intel has an upper hand in the CPU war with AMD. Its true that AMD are better than Intel an year ago before Intel lauched their dual core CPUs. But now Intel is clearly ahead.

Clear? No.. Ahead? yes.. According to recent benchmarking stats the Intel Dual Core CPU "averagely" does outrun the AMD dual core CPUs.. However the margin is slim and based purly on the application running. Games do run basically "better" on a AMD because of the piping structure.. While normal programs do run better on the Intel.. That has already been proven. As for the Dual Core market Intel does have a better CPU.. Which also costs more.. (Generally).. Where AMD took the market was in the "P4" or medium/upper class non dual core CPUs. With there Athlon and 64 bit cards they outran Intels but quiet a large bracket. However AMD was still new to the market and it is only currently being recognised..

Personally I have a Intel Dual Core chip because I got it for half price.. lol.. otherwise I would probably have a AMD.. Why? Because I rather like AMD and I am a gamer and I know for a fact games do run "awee" bit better on a AMD than a Intel.. Does that mean anything else? Nope..
