RazorNF is correct. If you go to namejet and look for pre-release domains, they will keep their creation date. Snapnames calls them "expiring" but it is the same.
1) pre-release = pre-drop = expiring = partner registrar > keep reg date
2) deleting = dropping = pending delete > will have new date
A domain that has expired will first go through a pre-release auction. If it is not sold, the same domain will reach pending delete a month later and it will drop. Then it will be caught by a dropcatcher and will go through a second auction.
