I have about 100 domains on one account. I opened a second for a friend and we have a few sites on it together. Cheap, good uptime, and cheap...not to mention it's cheap. Support is actually good too even though it's cheap.

depends what you want.

if you are wanting your first server I doubt you need such a high bandwidth site like dreamhost or hostgator.

I think you have to ask yourself do you want quality or quantity if quantity dreamhost if quality (id say polurnet but there are plenty of quality hosts)

I found both quantity AND quality with dreamhost.
Although, I'm sure that there are a lot of hosts that provide quality, with dreamhost, at least you get a sense of reliability that they've been operational for around 10 years.

they are not a quality server just search dreamhost and you will find tons of angry customers.

Perhaps there are both angry customers and happy customers.
I have read both good and bad reviews in webhostingtalk.

Hostgator is good value for money.

Dreamhost is definitely not quality hosting, but they don't mind admitting to that either. The bandwidth, disk space and options are endless, but be prepared for frequent down time and other hiccups.

(mt) are an a excellent host without a doubt, it's not so much that their prices are high, more that the plan is big. 100GB/1TB for $20/mo isn't actually that bad in comparison.

Out of the two i would choose hostgator as i have used them and not dreamhost (mainly because i have always heard bad things about dreamhost).

I've got a hostgator and dreamhost account.

With dreamhost if you are not using mysql then its great. But MySQL is very slow with dreamhost...it makes it very slow loading a site up that uses it.

Go for hostgator or servage -- you'll be happy with them

Only thing I would say about (mt) is dont use their grid-server.

Last I heard (a month or so ago) it was still very buggy....their users are (apparently) being treated like BETA testers!

Guys

Who's been established the longest, Dreamhost or Hostgator? I'm contemplating a move now, given the grief I'm having with my existing host. It's a pain to have to move all the sites again, and I believe many hosts only manage to hang on to unsatisfied customers because of the reluctance of their customers to disrupt their own sites/service further by having to relocate.

I've been hearing lots of good feedback about the two hosts above

I just moved to hostgator some months ago. Until now, didn't find any problems yet, however, I never used dreamhost, so can't say about it.

I use both hostgator and dreamhost. Both allow "unlimited" domains but hostgator subdomains them under one main domain and dreamhost fully hosts all of them. I suspect an SEO hit on hostgator's approach.

Can anyone tell me I am wrong?
