I've had them since april and I could NOT be happier.

Theri admin CP is not like any other out there, so it takes some getting used to, but once you do, you realize how well they have everything organized, how useful their tools are, and how much raw access you really have.

I've also had very good turnaround on several help tickets since I've had my service.

I have 4 (+2 more that I just added, + about 4-6 subdomains/redirects) sites hosted on my account:
1 fairly active message board - http://ogame.phroztnet.org/forums
1 fairly innactive message board - http://www.dicksnation.org/y/forums
1 decently active video site - http://acmovies.phroztnet.org
then my main site that I use for storage, weird pics, sigs, etc - http://www.phroztnet.org

to come are www.macro4tw.com and www.brokenmacro.com. I plan macro4tw to be an INCREDIBLY active site.. and brokenmacro to be a web comic if I ever get good enough :).

Like I said, tons of activity/multiplicity, and great results!!

eh.. I saw people giving reviews, but didn't see anything about DH, and I know that people might be skeptical about their huge overselling price point, but it's actually very legit and a very well run hosting business.

Here's a good example of why:

They have an outage reporting feature as part of their support. I JUST reported one...

This is an active problem... right this second... along w/their solutions.

Current system outages you are tracking:

Verified web server outage: http://www.acmovies.phroztnet.org/ [stop tracking], http://www.brokenmacro.com/ [stop tracking], http://www.dicksnation.org/ [stop tracking], http://www.dizz.phroztnet.org/ [stop tracking], http://www.forum.dicksnation.org/ [stop tracking], http://www.macro4tw.com/ [stop tracking], http://www.nuke.phroztnet.org/ [stop tracking], http://www.ogame.phroztnet.org/ [stop tracking], http://www.phrozt.net/ [stop tracking], http://www.phroztnet.org/ [stop tracking], http://www.rocx.phroztnet.org/ [stop tracking]
7 mins 25 secs ago: Outage verified: We are actively looking into resolving it.
21 mins 55 secs ago: Outage first reported.

Overselling is the thing that many companies practise. But overselling can be different too. Some companies do it obviously the others - not. But I'd never want to be the client of such a company - much downtime - it's not good for a serious business.

There's not a lot of downtime at Dh.. that's the thing... they are VERY honest about the fact that they oversell.

As I said before, I'm hosting 2 message boards, a video storage site that quite a few people access, and several other sites... and it works great.

I think for someone that needs storage and a development "playground," this would be perfect. They allow you to do soooo many things and working with access to users is very simplified.

Of course I would not suggest this for a corporate setting, but for a college student/someone of similar background who wants to get into parking and other web activities, it's perfect!

I am hosting 1 arcade going on 2 and dreamhost is pretty good for the price.

I only paid less than $50 for a years hosting with them.

I'm currently looking to offload an arcade site onto it -- its currently on my hostgator account but using up so much bandwidth...I've gotta move it off soon otherwise I'll be getting a big bill from HG :p

Hopefully Dreamhost will be ok for my needs -- there's only about 150 megs worth of files, its just bandwidth mainly.

Well being as they allow 2TB oof bandwidth that shouldn't be a problem. Obviously they're overselling, but they are still a great company (I host with them too :) ). Love their newletters as they have a little sense of humour :D

Ok...dreamhosts out -- they don't accept PayPal.

you are the only one i have seen in a long time say good things about them

I think people are quick to brush DH off because the user interface takes a little time to completly get down but once you do it's a great company that offers a great amount of tools and utilities.

They do accept PayPal. However, not when you use a coupon code (since some people abuse the system).

The price is good for the first year, but I am in the second year now.
Are there anything cheaper?

what? I use to use dreamhost with a coupon and paid with paypal they must have changed that recently

Anything cheaper??? It's less than $120 a year for 200 GB of space that grows at a rate of 1gb per week, and 2 TB of bandwidth that grows at a rate of 16gb per week... how is that not worth 10 bucks a month?

ihosty.. that's why I made this post. So many people are quick to jump on problems, or quick to judge oversellers, that there are probably very few positive reviews of good hosting companies. I have done a LOT of work through DH, developed a lot.. stored a lot.. and been able to expand my web knowledge/hobbies/interests/etc with no restrictions. I love it.

They stay in contact with their customer base through their blog... they started back in 97 (and are archived back to 98 http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.dreamhost.com ), and their space GROWS... which is one of the best business models I've seen to keep customers. Just take a look at their original page. They were selling something like 10MB for 10 bucks!!... look at where the internet is now! Their business model of growth per week is perfect when their customers are still w/them 2 years down the line and need more space because of how the internet grows. They already have it w/DH, but they'd have to upgrade to another package and pay more with another company.

Just so many good things to say about DH...

the first year is cheap with DH. But how many people stay with DH after the first year?

If you sign up for a year with the $97 off coupon, you pay ~$25 for the 1st year (thats $2 per month) - and then $9.95 per month thereafter

If you sign up for a 2 year prepaid deal with a $97 off coupon, you pay $95 for 2 years - thats about $4 per month. Price thereafter is $7.95 per month.

Either way - whether $9.95 or $7.95 - that's a great deal. I use dreamhost for some of my sites, quite happy with the performance and service.

On DreamHost, you can host unlimited domains.

The $2/month is only for the first year only, and you can't pay with PayPal when you use a coupon code.

I had a dreamhost account last month. But it got suspended due to high CPU usage. I think it's the fact that I was using atleast 4GB bandwidth per day.

Hosts like that are pure scams.

I just found out that DreamHost lets you pay via PayPal when you use a coupon code again.
(They temporarily removed it before because of abuse.)

That's impossible. If you use your limit daily CPU quote, that's it, you're sites are left offline till u have quota again.
