Although we domain investors & experts know much about domains, the public perceptions of reliability & trustworthiness are the real thing to evaluate a domain name with extension.
Many of our domainers underestimate dotco extension & think even a Dotcom tld is not available, Dotco is not worth it. Some think email address leak a problem & some has other reasons.
But we have to remember, perhaps we know more & accurately about domains, keywords, extensions & other things, The most important things about a domain name is how it will seem valuable to the end-users. And the
end-users will find value in a domain only if their potential clients/buyers/subscribers find the domain or website name trustworthy, safe, attractive & worth to be clicked to open.
Even the real potential consumers don't know what is a domain actually( they know domain as website name often), they might find a name like curtaindesign.co more desired than CurtainDesignservice.com.
They may find a five letter domain like tetne.com more lucrative than a premium cvcv .com like Roze.com for an online Kitchen Appliance chain.
So, according to this survey, Dotco is the second best after dot com & sometimes it is nearly as good as a dotcom.
