If you had the chance to own a regular dictionary word and it was available in both XYZ and BIZ
which one would you pick based on $$$

Estibot says the XYZ is worth more (when running the same word with both extensions, but hey
    estibot isn't very accurate.

    thoughts?

I would agree .xyz is worth more than .biz(why do i feel awkward saying this?)because...... .biz IMO seems to be a victim of the new gTLDs. From the lll and one word .biz i see on auctions on sedo, etc, their prices are horrible.

I think biz messed up their launch - it seemed that people werer grabbing biz names for spamming and other throw-away uses. Also, I think the word "biz" tends to give the impression of working out of the sideboard, but that's probably just me.

xyz is a strange one - The word "xyz" and "xyz1" has been used a lot in domain name examples over the years, and that was why I registered xyz1.com. To my mind xyz as a TLD has some logic as a completely general domain name description. More so than .com, although historic use and surfer perception makes .com the most desirable TLD by a considerable margin imho.

Those .BIZ-auctions on Sedo are direct and bidded by another domainers...
I don't see even such reseller-prices on .xyz...

.biz still sells more domains >$100 than .xyz according to namebio. In the last week, 10 .biz names sold for over $100 including Iceland.biz, Indonesia.biz, hv.biz, and other names which all make sense to have sold for the price. It has taken two months for .xyz to sell the same amount, three of those sales were smallvideo.xyz for $2k, smallclips.xyz for $1k, and tophitsvideo.xyz for $850. These sales happened at flippa within a day of each other and the seller has since been banned.

While .biz might be the ugly duckling domain, .xyz is a dumpster fire extension

I dont see either one becoming super popular. Both are weak extensions IMO. If i had to choose, my perception is that .biz is better than .xyz. Xyz is more generic but Biz is more understandable. My experience is that .biz sells a little easier than .xyz. Just my thoughts.

All depends of the word at the left of the dot.

    I prefer Pay.xyz over Pay.biz but I prefer Florida.biz over Florida.xyz

However I think .xyz makes more sense as an official Brand site.

If I can speed up my mini-site creation, I'm tempted to try monetising a bunch of xyz names whilst they are so cheap. Run them for a year, and just keep the ones that are earning some money.

I think it comes down to the reason you are investing in domain names. If you are looking for income, then I think you may be right in focusing on sales. However, I found that my best names are the easiest to sell, and they are the ones that will probably show the greatest capital appreciation. I'm now more interested in domain name investing as an alternative to bank savings accounts that give virtually no income, and are constantly devaluing as a result of inflation. If I can get a 5% return from monetising names, and have a good prospect of a capital gain, then I'm happy. Of course, I hope for a much higher return.

I'm now retired, so I don't have to put a value on my time. If you need the income to live, then you need to factor in a notional wage as part of your domain business.
