Ran a few recently listed TBR names through one of my tools..noticed a few sites had a lot of back links (thousands plus) ..

Because the one that I registered from the previous drop is doing better than I hoped. Picked up two more and going to put them to use (redirect and build my own back links)..

There were a few other sites with high back links (considering .ca versus .com) that maybe others (including lurkers) might want to research further) like:

(a) MichaelKors-Canada.ca (there was another "MichaelKors" in last list) has almost 300,000 backlinks...due to TM (possible) and probably a spam site!

(b) CreditRepairSecrets.ca 3000+ is worth further research

(c) ConMap.ca 3,400+

(d) Jakers.ca 2,100 (brandable?)

(e) The big one (backlinks) is Daic.ca 515,000+ (shortname + brandable)

Note the ones that I registered so far, I run through a lot of different tools and spent a lot of time checking them out on "wayback machine".

Note: still a fan of LLL (more of NNN's), I didn't find any with a high amount of back links..

Would have registered more but budget tight this month (might have to go Stateside and sell my blood lol)

Couldn't edit abd should have been written clearer.

Domains like "MichaelKors" that have brands in their name, I stay away from, for simple reasons

(a) Gut instinct, because my sites/blog get spammed with these types of name (Viagara for example is a classic brand that gets spammed), I automatically disregard them (past experiences).

(b) Dealing with possible/potential TM (trademarks) is a high risk game, time involved and not my forte!

If you want get to get involved with these types of domains, all that I can say is "it is your money, tread lightly"...

Just don't get the rationale behind business's DN choices sometimes..why oh why:
aosom / ca since 2011 --> according to them, a variation of the word "awesome"
roofor / ca startup from this August --> redirects to roofercanada / ca

both these have to S.P.E.L.L their sites on the radio when they advertise. It's not like .ca is a tough market to get a good name. Is it? They can do better, and should. Tells me that if you don't care about your name, you don't care about your product. Granted, peoples forte might be in their product which might sell itself because of what it is, but at least invest in a decent name to represent yourself..

I totally understand your point...seems (my opinion) it all comes down to budget!
Your two examples, both are premium keywords, probably expensive to buy and or are already developed!
I own p0rn.ca (a typo domain and as close to that major keyword that I can get, budget wise) that name would also have to be spelled out (not referring to radio/TV)! To sell it (not going to develop..cut throat market), so only chance I have to sell it, is to keep it out in the public eye and use a good "spin" (script/sales content) to convince the potential end user, it worth buying!

I miss the days when typos and back links helped with traffic...

Well it doesn't have to be an exact match, but surely something better than what they chose. Budget is a large factor for sure..I suppose being in domains, we have the luxury of knowing how to craft a good hand reg or search out a decent aftermarket name.

But sometimes, not so much budget as it is laziness or being just plain unaware.

For your name p0rn, at least it has enough quirkiness and "curiosity" to garner appeal. You can put the "spin" right in the logo to make it clickable, perhaps an R-rated approach with the number 0..But yes it would be a bit of a nightmare trying on radio with that one.

I own p0rn.ca

OK for a reg fee but when one faces hundreds of renewals it's probably one I would let drop.

I have the same dilemma with 4sex.ca, it's outside of my comfort zone because I don't deal with those type of domains and I am always thinking it might be one of the ones I let drop.

Letters and numbers mix are a challenge in the king, let alone for our Queen..really have to zero in on that special buyer or be lucky enough to have them find you.

Trying to think of a tagline that would work with p0rn.."Zero in for a quickie"

Yup, picked it up on a namepros auction and the transaction went smooth as silk.

On a side note, I just made my biggest offer ever for a .ca at 50k.
Been negotiating this one for quite a while and it is one I really want in my portfolio.
50K US or Canadian ?
Good luck

Good luck

I will only deal in CAD on .ca's unless I buy from Sedo or similar.
If I deal with you directly I'm not ever going to pay in USD because I factor in the exchange rate when I present an offer on godaddy or sedo. I find flippa pretty useless and have never found a .ca of interest there.

Yes, good luck with it. Any “hints” as to what the name is? 2 or 3 letter? One word? 2 word? Wouldn’t obviously expect to know the name as it’s still ongoing.

I'm betting a colour like BLUE.CA or GREEN.CA. something like that. Or maybe a short power term like BEST.CA or TOP.CA - it's got to be ultra-premium for a $50K offer that was not accepted.

The domain I offered it on is a fully developed website but the domain is not fully utilized. They can very easily change the domain and have a more accurate representation of their business. The reason I offered so much was to entice them to switch domains and to cover some of the costs thereof. For me it is one of my most desired domains and it very unlikely I offer that much for a .ca again anytime soon.

So did anyone win anything this week?

I tried for PIXEL.CA at a couple of sites, but I don't think any of them won, so it's likely MyID.ca.

anyone else in the Auction for LocalSeo.ca?

Nope, but I would like to know if PIXEL.CA is at auction at Sibername or if it was a clean win.

If you see it anywhere let me know because I would bid on it. I'm a huge pixel fan, I have everything Pixel and owning the domain would be sweet.
