[QUOTE="Spex, post: 7827100, member: 963926"Wonder if the names on that list would be considered gold or garbage by 2020 standards[/QUOTE]

I'd be betting on a LOT of garbage as the market was totally different back then - everything related to keyword-stuffing and parking revenues based on those keywords, so I'm betting on a lot of 3-6 word monstrosities that would be laughed out of town in our "branded + phone" short-domain age.

Definitely some gold as well, but hidden in tons of dirt.

I guess without seeing the whole list it’s hard to say but I’m guessing that there were quite a few gems on that list. I will guess and say 1/4 gems and 3/4 garbage.

Does someone know what year the .ca extension changed essentially allowing domain investment? I know in the very early days, it was like .com, you could only register names related to a business, organization, etc. you operated, as for early days of .com. The .ca was administered by an academic from UBC and the first domain registered was UPEI.ca. Does someone know what year it changed, and you could just register an available name? I presume it was well before CIRA took over?

I'm pretty sure it was Fall 2000 when it really opened up.

I see people left iphones.ca and WestjetAirlines.ca alone, I bet that was very tempting, lol but I can't imagine the wrath that would fall.

I picked up 8 after the drop

    Well, some genius still hand-registered:

    thesalvationarmy.ca

I was going to buy it for them and donate it (as it's their core brand and was last registered in 2004) but with the 60-day lock, I just let them know it was available via email and FB.

Looks like Yellow Pages is dropping some single-word domains, although I haven't found any that I would go for.

Yeah, Rented.ca is another Yellow Pages drop - they seem to be letting go a lot of -ED and -ER words this week.

They still own some nice single word names. Does anyone know if they are still buying?

No idea on YP still buying, but the dropped selection seems to be -er and -ed word variants. Nicely aged, but outside of a few, I'm not sure how marketable they are.

webnames.ca $4.99cad .ca registration. i don't have an account there. what is there reputation? i don't want to get burned like i did with directnic, because i bought a name on a promo they wanted about $30 if i wanted to transfer it out.

Haven't used them but WHC is having a $2.99 sale for Canada Day. Who cares if they're difficult - it's $2.99!
