I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

It looks like Peter from eMall did it again. This time selling finances.ca for $34,500.

Wow, that's a nice price for a plural.

I think this is one where the plural works.
Financing would also work...

That’s a great sale regardless. Peter seems to get high prices for his domains. If you recall, he sold ticket.ca early this year for $100K.

In most cases, a great domain is overrated in deciding the success of an online business.IMHO.

Of course, as it's a team game - you need good people, a great product or service, a viable infrastructure, proper funding, marketing research, etc., but if you match that with a low-end branding choice then you're taking a big risk.

It's like people believing that Tom Brady will automatically win a SB this year - without the best coach ever, without the best-run team ever, without being able to play defense, and while taking a huge salary at TB, rather than his usual "discount rate" in NE.

One guy can't win it all in the NFL, just like a top brand name alone can't magically support a lame-duck company, but put the Brady Brand on a real contender with all the other pieces in place, and you have a much better chance at success.

Sure it works, but I'm just saying that at similar price levels, I would take Finance over Finances any day of the week.

Almost anything is brandable if you have enough money. As for Google, they could have used one of a million domains and it wouldn't have changed anything. In most cases, a great domain is overrated in deciding the success of an online business.IMHO.

Google became google because of the association with a googol, which is a veerrrryyyy long number. As in that's how many more search results their engine returned compared to their competitors (remember them?).

Plus googol is difficult to spell, has multiple pronunciations and just plain looks weird.

Heard Travis somebody or other from CIRA on the CBC this afternoon talking about the spike in registrations.

He made some good points about the marketing advantages of domain names/websites vs social media marketing. Essentially:
Trying to fit your company into a template.
Having no control over your customer interface.
The social media company controls your customer info.

Overall he made some good points. It's worth listening to the interview.

Anyway, he mentioned the aftermarket as a "cottage industry". I think it's a lot bigger than that.

He finished up promoting bestbacon.ca and artwrk.ca(waste of $10). And yes, he spelled it.

Google could have been called a million different things and it wouldn't have changed anything. Google made Google.com worth something, not the other way around.

If you believe their branding choice meant absolutely nothing, and they would be just as successful as SmellyPooPooButt.com, then we should just agree to disagree.

You forgot:

Looks like you're operating your business out of a dumpster.

Seriously, these (cough) "companies" that use a FB page as their main website aren't fooling anyone, and no business is going to give them a thin dime for products or services.

It just screams "Hey everybody! I'm living in a storage unit!!"

On the other hand, lots of micro-companies have grown considerably by starting off with a good brand, a professional business site, a shared phone service, a postal mail box, and depending on the industry, maybe a small rented business space + access to boardroom. Very low investment.

I've read case studies on some of these guys and they said getting a nice website + contact number was what allowed them to make the jump from micro-business to major player - it fooled a lot of people into thinking their business was bigger than it was.

No way they get anywhere with just a lame FB link.

Don't be silly. I never said a name like SmellyPooPooButt.com would be as successful. I said a million other names would have worked as good as Google. Yes, let's just disagree.

SmellyPooPooButt.com
It’s available for registration. The .ca is available as well for those interested in starting up a bum sanitizer business. Now is the time! The slogan would be easy. “Buy from us. That’s all we ASSked”.

From the above list of domains mostly the maximum domain has so much price. Can you give the list of domain that have less than $100 price?

Has anyone tried or had success with DAN.com for .CAs? Since they actively feature the payment plan option, I was thinking of listing some of my higher priced names there to see if it'll produce more inquires/offers.

Thanks

I have had some there for a few months...had some views but no nibbles/bites so far.

I have sold two things at Dan (though they still call themselves Undeveloped at times), Jack and Shiitt.

They really have limited organic traffic, and unless you forward your traffic there (which might be better served at GD or Sedo) don't expect any action.

Dan does have nice landing pages but I don’t use them. I still prefer Epik’s landing page. Not my domain (wish it was) but 3D.com looks very clean and professional. I’m guessing you would need an ultra premium domain to have a video like that on your for sale page.

Interesting that DAN doesn't seem popular here. Is it just a .CA thing or do you guys not have anything there?

@nafti , are your names registered at Epik as well or are you just using their marketplace/landers?

I have seen a few people use DAN for their .ca’s. It still seems to me that the majority of .ca’s are still using Sedo for their for sale landers.

@Spex I have a few of my .ca’s at Epik. For me they are a 1 stop shop with also a great Escrow service that’s super quick. Names that I don’t have at Epik, I use Efty.

Is anyone else using Chrome and getting TBR results from CIRA that include the TBR picks of last week?

Firefox doesn't have this issue, but Chrome often does, and I have flushed the cache multiple times (as always) with no effect - it happens so much with Chrome that it has to be a browser issue.

Using Chrome now and all I see are names for the June 17 TBR

It's definitely some kind of caching problem, as there is a known issue on the CIRA side where the domains selected that week (114 this week) continue to show up on the list after the Wednesday run. Then the CIRA flushes them from the DB, and usually so too do my browsers.

Usually, this is short-term and disappears on Thursday, but it's been holding fast on mine for a few days. As I flushed the cache a few times today, it'll probably be gone tomorrow.
