I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I've been pretty quiet for .ca sales. A few $1000ish deals, but for the most part, the last big one i had was 17.7k usd about a year ago. To be fair, I also have barely put any time into it. I need to get back into it. I've noticed my LLLL.coms also took a dive lol

If I wanted a perfect domain I would buy one. :xf.wink:

You have the perfect domain. It’s also very.......... Pure. ;)

That converts to $12.86 CAD plus the credit card company charging a premium for the conversion of another 1-2% which brings it over the $13 dollar mark.
That can definitely be costly since you have over 500 .ca’s. Maybe you can get a good deal from Rob since you created the longest Epik thread. :)

Epik is somehow affiliated with Hexonet for .ca’s. If you look up one of my domains in the CIRA Whois, you will see that it’s registered with “HEXONET Services Inc.”. But I log into my Epik account to access my .ca names.

Canspace had the same with .com's they were technically registered with a different company (enom) even though you controlled them at Canspace. That is why the .com's were too expensive at canspace.... too many cooks in the kitchen.

That's the key - whenever I take the time to actively market my domains, I always sell a few, but right now I'm way behind on even listing my recent purchases... if 5-6 months ago is "recent". :xf.confused:

My LLLL.coms have also taken a hit in the last year. 15%-20% I'm guesstimating. Are you buying at the bottom or do you think there's more falling to come?

Can you share any of your .ca sales? Are they on NameBio?
Thanks if you can, Congrats either way.

Looks like another really bad week, with only 5 LLLs (only one is even close to premium) and not a lot of high-end names so far... It's not been a good run for the TBR lately.

That's pretty common in the registrar world. Not all of them are accredited for all TLDs, so some of them might just use another registrar as a "backfill" for additional TLDs. Hexonet, OpenSRS, RRPproxy, internetX are pretty commonly used.

Does not look like Mr Monster is going to reply to us in the .ca forum section.
I'm pretty sure @nafti tagged him.

I’m sure there is a lot on his plate but would be nice to see a response. Or he missed the tag.

I have managed to avoid Epik so far. Namesilo has been getting my .ca business recently - $8.99 USD for a .ca - I use a USD credit card and do all buying selling in USD.

Do some of you sell in Canadian dollars? I wouldn't mind doing that for some transactions, but, I don't know of an escrow service that keeps $ in Canadian.

I think you have to consider the default currency of any .CA transaction as CAD. In theory every buyer and seller has to have a Canadian presence, and the majority of buyers are going to be Canadian and you certainly can't assume any buyer or seller is going to have a US Bank account or be used to doing large currency exchanges. So for .CA's, I quote prices in CAD and I make offers in CAD. Now if a buyer _wants_ to deal in USD, I'm certainly OK with that. But I never presume that. If they want to use Escrow, yes, its a bit of a pain since no one supports CAD, but I always explain that and offer options for payment. More times than not, Canadian buyers are happy to avoid escrow due to the fees and currency exchange hassles... So I just send an invoice and they send me payment directly. If the buyer is from outside of Canada, then they tend to use escrow.com since they're probably already using USD anyways and its just convenient.

Also note that your best deal for .CA renewals are going to be with a real .CA registrar and in CAD - not USD. If you don't have a ton of .CA's then I guess a few bucks here or there doesn't matter. But with thousands of domains, it all adds up.

So I get an inquiry for a 5-letter, singular dictionary word (that is not listed for sale) from an actual person (I tracked him and he works at an engineering firm) asking if I would sell it. I reply in the affirmative, asking what kind of budget they're looking to spend, and I get back this gem:

"Okay, it costs $10 to register, so how does $20 sound?"

That is my new record for a low-balling inquiry, especially since it was CAD, which only amounts to ~$15 USD.

"Thanks for the kind offer, but I'll have to pass."

That is a very professional response. Well done. Mine would have been “slightly” different than yours!

Don't you just hate getting these:

"Hi, I forgot to renew my domain and I was wondering if you could sell it back to me?"

So I do some research and find it used to be a small personal blog, and while I am a very nice guy, I got this on the TBR for 3-figures (it's a popular last-name+ aged) and I am not going to just give it away. And no way is this guy going to even pay my expenses.

I don't think I'm even going to reply, as I do not want to get into a soap opera sob story right now. :xf.cool: I only see negatives with no positives.

And where the hell are these guys coming from? The holidays are over and suddenly I'm getting a couple weird CIRA emails a day.

I don’t think that’s possible. Did you hear back from him?

Yep, he inquired as to the price.

Heeeeeeyyyy.... is this you trying to slow-roll-lowball me? :xf.eek:
