Just come across the fact that there is to be a $16 million investment in internet TV - just for the Welsh language.

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/s...08/10/16/9-5m-for-internet-tv-91466-22030424/

Niche markets may yet lead the way.

And if that's not enough, the Welsh language already has the following .TV

http://www.s4c.tv/

And that's one small corner of one small island!

PLEASE STOP POSTING UNFOUNDED, UNPROVEN, FACT-FREE NEGATIVE STUFF - the reality of the .TV future is VERY different

So it's not all over D-:

BUT

What If.... D-:

If that is so - I'll buy Scotland.TV and Belfast.Tv from you for peanuts and turn them into Scots gaelic and Irish language channels.

Let me think about that one.

Within the next few years there will be a new Tv Channel for Scotland, lets hope they choose a .tv like our Welsh cousins did for the nice S4c.tv

Isn't that BBC Alba? (Channel 168 on Sky Digital)
Or is there another channel coming soon?

I did check alba.tv in the past, it now directs to alba.info- a waste managment company!

edit: just noticed you said Scottish channel, not Scottish language channel. Is this an English/mixed language channel?
PS- have you seen sit1.tv?

re: Welsh .tvs
There are quite a few Welsh-content .tv domains around (ironically there is no letter v in Welsh)- I used to use a little trick with a common Welsh word 'mae' and do a google search for mae site:.tv to gauge the number, but since Fannie Mae made headlines earlier this year the results have become a lot more diluted.

re: news story
It's quite old news, I don't know why it's taken so long for 'Wales Online' to publish it. I'm sure this happened in June/July.
I'm more and more impressed with S4/C's digital offerings every time I use them- but I was surprised they've put so much money into this venture at first (although it doesn't actually give a percentage, I'll bet it's a hefty one). But if Terry Matthews believes in this venture then you can almost be certain it's worth it!
Does anyone think this will have any major bearing on .tv domains though? As I understand it, this IPTV system operates on a closed network rather than on the Interweb or through a download that doesn't require a browser.
Another point- their service uses freewiretv.com and freewire.tv, but the links from INUK's website (inuknetwork.com) all go to the ~tv.com! :|

I've re-read that paragraph and it sounds (perhaps) a little negative- but I think this service is a great idea, and it will help people associate the internet with multimedia content i.e. TV. If people are associating the Internet with TV then maybe there may be more awareness of .tv domains as searches for that type of content increases; although I imagine the kind of consumer that is likely to have the service in the first place probably doesn't need prompting to search for media content. (Now I'm going in circles)

As an aside, I hope S4/C have some of that cash left over and fancy buying some of my Welsh .tv names- and save me the hassle of developing them...

Whole new Channel, part of a Government review which feels us Scots should get more than we do now.

Some Info:
A digital television channel - supported by an online presence and committed to high-quality, original Scottish content - is the main recommendation in the final report of a year-long look at the future of Scottish broadcasting.

Yesterday, the Scottish Broadcasting Commission - under the leadership of former BBC Scotland head of news and current affairs, Blair Jenkins - published its final report. Comprising 22 key recommendations, the report - titled, ‘Platform for Success’ - would most like the establishment of a ‘Scottish Network’, at estimated cost of between £50 million and £75 million a year to run.

At the lower end of the budget scale, according to Blair, the Scottish Network would comprise mostly factual programming; the upper end would be able to afford drama and comedy. The estimated cost was based on the £95 million annual expenditure of the Welsh-language channel, SC4 - rather than the circa £20 million budget estimated by Rob Woodward - chief executive of stv owners, SMG - who recently suggested a government-funded digital channel that would, in part, comprise archive.

The commission was launched by First Minister, Alex Salmond, in August last year.

A Scottish Network - proposed as running as a not-for-profit organisation and not including any advertising - would commission externally rather than produce in-house - thus satisfying part of the commission’s remit of finding ways to stimulate and grow Scotland’s creative community.
