Donuts’ first investment is in a geofencing company.
Top level domain name company Donuts has made the first of what promises to be many investments through its new Donuts Labs program.
Through Donuts Labs, the company is putting its capital and registry knowledge to work by investing in emerging technologies that promote new uses for domain names, leverage the domain name system (DNS), or otherwise are complementary to Donuts’ interests.
The first of these is GeoFrenzy, a company that has mapped the Earth to a resolution of a square centimeter for deployment of smart geofences.
Timothy Favia, Donuts Vice President of Corporate Development, explained that GeoFrenzy’s use of DNS for caching, as well as its similarity to a registry, got Donuts’ attention.
