Hi guys! (don't blast me for asking this question!)

What are exactly dropped domains? Are they just never renewed or something, and just slip off out in the open domain world for someone to pick up? Is there any way you can snatch one up for an excellent deal and resell it to make a profit?

Thanks! :red:

Dropped domains are domains that expire which means the person who registered that domain once did want to renew ( pay the renewal fee $8-whatever high it may be ) again .
There can be a lot of reasons for not renewing the domains but the biggest reason is the previous owner didn't like the domain or wasn't worth as much as he thought it would be.
Yes , many domains expire each day .. but some are grabbed by people by backordering before it is available in the open market. A few sites that let you bid for an expiring domain is
Domain Auctions, Expired Domain Names, and Available Aftermarket Domain Names for Sale - NameJet
They provide you with the list of domains expiring each day and so you can place a bid and grab the domain.
Or you can try backordering them with GoDaddy.com or Name.com etc .

Hope this helps .

What does it mean to bid on an expiring domain? What if 10 people all bid the same price? How is ti decided which registar gets it also?

Dropped names are exactly that just domain name that has become available to the public since the previous owner either did not renew them or just forgot about them or no longer had a use with them. Roughly 50-60 thousand names drop every day and become available to register to the public.

The name will drop into an auction house if several people bid on it. No one person can bid the same price because it will automatically kick in a "proxy" bid meaning if the name is currently going for $10 the next person to bid will have to enter a higher number for the bid to be accepted. The highest bidder at the end of the auction course (usually 7 days) will walk away with the domain name.
