Registering domains should always be DIY in business. You don’t let other people register your domains. For companies, register them in the company’s name and assign active administrators who’s roles get changed out and assumed by another promptly if/when they leave your company. There should be written policies about domain names as well as checks and balances. Domains should be consolidated into a single account. These are important considerations for all companies...

Yep for sure, I have heard plenty of horror stories from people where they let their webdesigner register the domain name for them. Even one story where the web designer was a college student... sold a website package to a client and registered the domain in his own name and created the website for his client... 3 or 4 years later he finishes college and moves on join the rat race... doesn't bother renewing the domain name and next thing you domain gets dropped, and someone else buys it.. the small business owner who spend 3-4 years building his brand gets shafted.

Theres this guy on Fiver that for $5 he will register your .com .net .org domain name if you are short for cash. The bad thing is he holds the domain and you continually pay him year after year like a registrar.

Belong to an organization that treated domain name registration and domain name account passwords and info with scant thoughts.

Aware of both a name loss and web page losses due to undervaluing the importance of domain name oversight.

Agreed.

Same is the case with FB Fan Pages.

Had some clients who let one of their employees create company/brand fan pages as admins. Later the employees fell out with their employers and they refused to give back the control of the pages.

Incredible.
