Hello,

I am a regular eBay seller of domains (one of the few that is left) and I was wondering if people could give me a little perspective on the domains I'm selling.

I've noticed on Bido domains are selling for over $100 that are simular to the ones I'm selling on eBay (or at least it seems to me they are simular).

Here are some of my recent sales in the last 4 days:
ActorArchive.com $10
WomensShampoo.com $10.50
MotherResource.com $15.50
AnimalToyStore.com $19.50
UnlimitedWifi.com $13.39
iRecyclable.com $9.99
GreatCounters.com $9.99
BestSkirts.com $9.99
Wholesailing.com $12.88
FasterTorrent.com $9.99
WirelessRatings.com $10.50

Are these domains selling acurately? Or do you feel they are worth more than the selling price? I make about minimum wage selling on eBay (lol) but its fun for me. I just wonder if I'm wasting my time and should sell on Bido.com with less sales/higher margin or sit on some of them.

My second question is, why don't you shop on eBay for domains? Do domains like ObamaOrHillary2012.com for $50,000 scare you away? Do you dislike the auction format? Or are there really no buyers left! =)

Thanks!

Hi, I have bought a few domains on eBay over the last year. Generally there's a lot of dross listed, although your ones are certainly a lot better than most. I'd be curious to hear if anyone thinks you might have got more selling some on NP. I particularly like iRecyclable.com.
The main reason I don't look more on eBay is that there's no real way to filter results. You can't specify number of characters etc. Also, many sellers do not list the actual domain name in the listing, only something like "great real estate dot com". You have to click and open the listing page to see it's "houzesales4U.com" or some other gem. This takes a lot of time.
Good luck and I will check out your listings next time I'm on.

Some of those are sold too low.
Did you ever try to send email to potential buyer before you even list it for auction
and let them know auction start date?

I am not too familiar with ebay, but, I tried once with two domains and sold one for $1K.

Looks like you are still a newbie at this industry,
if you cannot sell a domain for at least 5-10 times from the cost,
finally you are a loser.
pay around $8 for register a domain and sell for $10? is it your business model????????
think twice, it's my faithfully advice.

Honestly, those domains are crap and none will ever see legit development. Be thankful you made a profit.

Thank you for the great words of encouragement coltter. This business model has been very successful in the past. I do make small amounts of money on domains I register for 7.17. I sell an average of 20 a day. I list in auction format and my average selling price is $14 because some sell high.

14-7.17= 6.83 x 20 = $136.6 a day (less because of some fees). I work in a different niche of domains than most domainers, but it is still a business and it is still profitable. Calling me a newbie because I work in the lower price domains isn't a good assumption. Like many people I don't have the capital to invest in higher priced domains or I would.

I will work my way up.

And thank you dubdubdubdot =). That was the honest answer I was looking for.

I am curious....what are the listing fees? As I remember, EBAY listing charges are not cheap. Seems the majority of domain names don't end up selling on EBAY. Curious what your percentage is since that can really take away from your (small) profit margins.

Also...how much time does it take to make 20 listings and process 20 transactions a day...then coach the EBAY newbies into getting accounts at same registrar when possible, or time to pull auth codes, handle transfers etc etc.

IMO seems that the more successful name flippers work off drop lists etc and try to sell first at Sedo where listing are $60 and up. At any rate, thanks for sharing your biz model and good luck.

I know Estibot.com is only a guide but it gives this domain a valuation of $2300...Sounds like $10.50 is too low to resell at.

It's not just you. It does SEEM like a good domain.

However there is no end user for it. No shampoo line is going to use this since it totally alienates men from a product that is gender neutral.

Hoping the buyers of the crap domains will want your crap electronics or something?

I too wonder how you manage to make a profit when you add the listing fees to your reg fee. Certainly in Australia i would be broke the first day given the economics of listing fees plus reg fee.

Factor in the time it takes to sort out pushing 20 domains, and writing them up on eBay......damn it i give up!

I sold on eBay years ago. It was a pain in the ass. The listing fees do erode your profits and you do waste a lot of time coaching buyers through the push and transfer process. The listing process isn't exactly efficient either.

There are benefits though. Some buyers become repeat customers who will buy names directly from you without having to list them. It's an effective way to build a buyer/email list.

One eBay buyer eventually bought over 500 domains from me in a bulk transaction and then referred me to another buyer who bought many more.

Nowadays I prefer selling on SnapNames.com. They take a 20% commission but they handle the entire push process which is a huge time saver. See my signature for my current sales listings.
