Just steped over the following:

domainnameowner_org
Anybody got information on them ?

They claim:
DomainNameOwner_org combs the internet for domain names that may be subject to abuse. Once a domain name is found, it is registered and then forwarded to DomainNameOwner.org. When the rightful owner tries to visit their domain name, they will be connected to DomainNameOwner.org where they can contact us for the name. If you are the owner of this name, please contact us ASAP! Once we are contacted, we will do a background check to verify that you are the rightful owner. If you are the legitimate owner, the domain name will be transferred to you immediately and FREE of charge. DomainNameOwner.org does not profit in anyway from these domain names. This service is completely done for the betterment of the Internet at large.

Here is a example pointing to them: votearnold_net

Where is the clue ?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

You missunderstood,
they say they will pass the domain(s) to the rightful owner.

"Once we are contacted, we will do a background check to verify that you are the rightful owner. If you are the legitimate owner, the domain name will be transferred to you immediately and FREE of charge."

So as in my example that points to their site VoteArnold_net.
Would be passed to Mr. Govenator if he claims it ;)

In any case I can't see the benefits of this .org, as it is a money burning machine
(At least if in the end they do what they claim).
I can't imagine throwing away thousands in yearly reg fees just to hold the name for the "rightful owner" and fight abuse.

Yeah but how do they get control of the domain in the first place?

They reg it, and then seem to wait for the potential "rightfull owner".

They are squatting names claiming to prevent others from squatting them

CORRECT,
but where is the clue ?
It seems they squatt, and then just point the domain to their 1 page website without any ads or revenue generating features.
I mean this is stupid, unless they claim for money afterwards, but they say they transfer for free.
The thing is, that this is burming money on big scale IMO.
And I can't imagine that they have a $$$ shitting donkey in their backyard ;)

When someone "claims" a name, this site is going to charge them a fee or negotiate with them. Its definitely not a "public service organization".

Hmm, maybe a bit cynical in my old age but I wonder if they are doing this just to drive traffic to the domain before selling it ?

Suppose they just buy domains as we all do to sell on, decided to put up this page to improve their image and get lots of people visiting ..... After all we are talking about it :)

All the best

Many possibilities here.

1. That's just a parking page. Could be that peoples names are pointed at paid parking first, then redirected to that page to throw some doubt into real profit making reasons or potential fair use issues. May just be pointing famous names to that page to attempt to avoid unfair use charges, but the ultimate goal is selling the name pointed there.

2. Description if very vaque Who knows who or what they intend to charge whom. For example, the domain is free, but will charge legal or consulting charges?

3. The contact email goes to a company called ideas-inc .com. From that website, they appear to be a search directory company.

4. Could just be a ploy or idea to sell that specific domain, which someone may think is worth developing and buy it for that purpose.

5. Could be a cover for hijacking in that hijacked names are parked their (hoping the owner doesn't notice). After certain time, then passing them off as unclaimed.

These are all just speculations, but with the small amount of info given, I'd just say it's an undeveloped initial concept on that domain name at this point.
