I strongly think we must have a reserve included into auctions...every marketplace has reserve auctions.

Is it auctioning if I steal it and pay the agreed price???!!!

You lost me at "I don't mean outright conventional stealing"... and I am annoyed that I said NO on the poll without realising that you are ... overworking your brain.

you could add a reserve price on your auction:

    starting bid: $xx
    increments: $x
    reserve price: $xxx

that way if it doesn't sell for your reserve price you can choose as the seller to not release the domain to the last bidder or sell from last bid also. Just something to think about. It would still be up to Namepros rules of auction to do this though

If that's the case, then the seller should factor that cost into the auction at the start.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There IS a reserve price in namepros auctions.
    It's the STARTING bid.

This really is one of the most mind numbing threads ever.
Painful, that there is even any discussion over this (regarding OP).

What I'm hearing is that you listed a domain for $1 and then regretted it, and you think it's somehow the bidder's fault for not second-guessing you and wasting his time (and yours, in most cases) reaching out to find out if you would like to back out of the deal, leaving him with time wasted and nothing to show for it. I have never heard of anything so ridiculous.

If someone is not prepared to sell his/her domain for $1 he shouldn't set starting bid $1. I sold many domains for $1 here, and I don't regret at all because that was their real value at the time. Which means I made mistake by registering them. Also, I have bought many domains for $1 here, and sold some of them for a great ROI... but I had to do outbound, which means it took some effort to sell.

At the end selling some domains for such low price ($1) forced me to become more picky when buying some domains, at the end I became better investor. Fail, fail, fail.... win.... fail, fail, fail, fail, win.... that is how you win in real life.

When I was a child and played board games with adults they always had to let me win. Because if I lost I would throw the board through the room so angry I was. I could not lose though I was old enough to know that losing is part of the game and continued winning is impossible.

Happy these times are over. In August I sold a name in a Namepros auction. Starting bid $1, result $3 (!) and I was disappointed because I knew the domain had more value, at least for me. The buyer, a super nice guy, wrote in a DM: "If you wanted to just cancel and keep it, I would be totally okay with that, it's your call, if you were hoping to get more for it." But I never would´ve accepted this, I would have felt like I was a child again. Even if this name had been coin dot com or similar, I´d have transfered it for $3 (easy to say, I know).

This thread has a lot to do with pride and faith and reliability. If you give your word, keep it. And think before you act to make a good decision.

Well there must be a reason why domainers like to play with words.

Thank you very much @sharastar . So much acknowledgement is embarrassing me. :shy: I am aware that it is always easier to give clever recommendations to others than to exemplify those principles.

Please don´t tell neither my bank nor my wife. :muted:

If I was a Neomarxist - there is a real Entrepreneur in this forum who saw me slightly left of the political middle I suppose - I would propose to install a monthly vote for the Namepro of the Month. (Thinking of the Soviet Worker of the Month, Note for younger members.)

Thanks again. Why did I not just click the Thank Button?

This is the most bizarre thread I've seen on any forum
Why is nobody discussing self-washing socks? :(

Brilliant idea! Better would be non-washables. Self-cleaning, never stinky socks of Nanomaterial. What a global market!

Let’s accept that we all play with the words to make a fortune, something is valuable in my perspective and something is valuable in others perspective...

if you really believe in the domain you have bought, don’t put it on Auction Starting @ 1... Wait for someone to Recognise it!

i think each person should do their business in a way that reflects their own goals and morality, but i am against forcing others to apply one person or groups "morality"

i could easily see winning a name at $1, and if worded correctly a request to maybe not take it..and i might or might not... but it would first have a clearly affirm per the rules the name is mine at $1.

in many cases the thought and effort to throw out a bid, wait the time period, get spammed by others who see me as a buyer and email me their names, and also think whether i am in a bidding war with friends of the seller

so i need a couple ot come in as positive surprises to make up for those where i maxed out.

So can i see it being a no sale because no one else bid, maybe but totally up to the buyer -

So the synopsis here is this. If you dont want to sell it for $1 then either dont set that as the starting bid or set a reserve of you don't that's on you NOT the buyer. Second if that's all it sells for that buyer did you a favor because you would likely end up dropping it or renewing it forever without a sale.
