What the general thinking about the Value Estimator? I know that there is alot of subjectivity involved and there is no perfect science covering all instances, but in general does it come close ie90% of time or within say 10-15% of what the sale will be? Also, are there any specifics for choosing the market value- (1-5 ranking). I read guidelines. It seems, that is where alot of subjecitity comes to play. If Google gets 100,000 hits / day is it reasonable to rate the DN @ 3?@ 5?
PS Can't tell you how happy I am to have found this site and to be around a few other DN crazies like myself.

The Domain Value Estimator does as good as an automated system can. I've found it to estimate pretty good on lower value names.

The market value rating is the key to getting a good value out of the name. It won't be directly relative to the Google or Overture results, this is one factor that a human opinion is needed to gauge the demand for a name. Most domain names would fall in the Market Value range of 2-3, unless they are very strong one worders or are among the top names in their particular industry.

What do you think of the results you've gotten from it so far?

I find the tool helpful when I can't decide on an asking price. Otherwise, experience and research are still the best tools.

Welcome to Namepros, Grrilla. :tu:

This "tool" is but one more (and I believe, valuable) resource to better assist the Namepros community with assigning potential valuations to their domain names (namely, at the wholesale/reseller level). It's not an End user with money in hand approaching you with an offer ... but it can get you headed in that direction if used as a basis for further and ongoing research and marketing, IMHO.
Appraisals are also opinions, and results will vary.

Think the extreme difference in value between the avg/above-avg. and the top-tier names is one of the most difficult problems in setting DN prices, and one I still haven't come to grips w/. For instance,I was rather surprised to see what Broadband.org was appraised at relative to several very good names I've seen appraised in the $30-$70 range. The predicament is to not grossly overprice and yet,I don't want to sell and than see name being resold a few mos later @ 10x the amt I got for it.

What do you think of the results you've gotten from it so far?

Like the value calculator alot (for what it does, not always for the figure it comes up w/! HeHe). It seems like it will help finetune pricing ie where a group of names intuitively appear of about equal value. Also can see the logic in the criteria used.

Would like to see some DN examples of each rating, 1-5. Would fill in alot. What would you rate nextpresident, spiritof76, jocktv, 24hrservice at 1-5 market value ? I take it that ext, numbers, and dashes have no impact on this number value.

I use to try it alot but have gotten away from it. You can pretty well figure out what the value is going to be after you have used it many times.

Namepros Appraisals CAN complement/adjust some of these findings based on an Appraiser's experiences, research, particular knowledge, observations, or perceptions, IMHO.
Generally, numbers and hyphens would score a very low "Market Value" and each extension is weighted differently in the DNA.
Perhaps we can post some "examples" here to help clarify, as well.
Thanks.

Interesting

I just came across this site yesterday and used the domain value estimator on a few domains that I own. While a couple came out pretty low as I expected, $7-$20, a couple others were much higher $250+ and one in a VERY HIGH range. I used a market rating of 1.0 for each one and 0 unique hits. All these domains have the keyword they're related to in the domain name and theyre all VERY similar. I plan to do something with each of them over time :)

Remember: It still comes down to whether there is a buyer out there or not.

Agreed with ArmStrong, I also find the estimator a very useful tool before I register a domain name.

Right, and one may have to adjust their pricing levels downward in order to attract more potential suitors ... at BOTH the Wholesale and End user levels, IMHO. A buyer out there willing to pay your Asking price, more specifically. I think the "DNA" can assist with formulating a general range for this, complemented with Appraisals and one's own experience, observations, homework, and marketing efforts.
