i have the opportunity to purchase a one-word .com with specific industrial applications. it has approx 70,000 instances on google and 396 searches from overture in the last month. What might be a fair price for sth like this in general, since i didnt provide specifics ...

It depends what it is. If its concrete test cylinders then the value is probably much less than if its manlifts or cement trucks.
