You should have put the reserve at $5500 to negate the fee. It couldv'e been worse... lol ;)

Nice to see a few NamePros members had some sales :) hope you are happy with what you got for them.

Is there are full list somewhere to show everything that got sold ?

So, all in all the auciton wasnt a complete loss, BUT - I recieved the same offer without a 10% fee - lol. So, not exactly what I had hoped for.

Bummer, it's worth alot more than that IMO :td:

Setting low reserves to stimulate bidding did'nt really seem to do the trick from what I saw.

I missed the first 100 or so names in the auction but from the bit I did see it seemed like only a minute amount of domains made much over their reserve price, the majority seemed to get passed on - I found it a bit painfull to watch to be honest

Maybe allowing people to vote Good or Bad on the domains beforehand was not a very practical idea, BAD is a pretty strong word to use IMO - did it put some people off ? or were they just bad names ?

A couple of days before the auction started there were 420/450 domains that got more bad votes on them than good....Is that why the place looked empty ?

Whats your thoughts on this ?

It really depends. I think it's a little safer to do on the kind of name that is in a category that has appeal to a larger number of buyers, plus something that's more generic vs. brandable as you NEED 2 or more people interested at a price higher than the min. FinancialCounseling.com was a good example of that, as financial names in general have been kicking butt lately, like in last Traffic. I would have been mildly happy with a $5,000 sale, but I was confident that with so many eyes on it, it would get the interest it deserved. Conversely, when I got it in Traffic silent in the Vegas traffic, the silent auction was mostly dormant. Most names got nothing until close to closing, and in general you got the feeling that people just didn't care to waste their time, even though deals could definitely have been had (I only got PN.net and FinancialCounseling.com, but if I had a lot more money, I would have gotten a lot more).

Even though the live showing didn't turn out very well at all overall, I was confident that the added attention would really do that name well and it did. It was the only name of mine that I expected to bid up...would have LIKED for Poker.in to bid up for sure, but with it being a .in, that limits the market for it substantially so I did get stuck with just 1 interested person at or above that price. With the weak live showing, I was very surprised DrPoker.com got a bid...I thought for sure that would pass, and that's a name I've wanted to sell at about $4k-$5k. Still, it's another I've had for a while and am glad to be moving on from it.

Well poker.in is the highest 'reported' .in sale ever.

So all good from my perspective.

Congrats to you Steve, Ron and all the others who got sales.

I'd be interested to know the number of active online bidders, I kept seeing the same online bidders, "nobodyquinv" was one of them....These auctions are obviously targeted to domain resellers, you have to wonder how much better it would of done if exposed to a broader audience.

It's great to see domain auctions now have some competition, this is a win win for domainers and more work for auction rivals like Moniker, who I very much like, but they need to improve their format and trash the silent auction altogether, or give domain owners the option to have their domains included or excluded to silent....On another note; I'm concerned about over saturation of these auctions and what it will do to domain values, help or hurt?

Thanks EG for keeping this thread together so well... I added to your rep and hope others do too. It was REALLY nice to be able to follow along with the live auction and root for other NPer's with the first post so well organized. :)

I had a poor day, going 0/4, but wasn't surprised by this, as the names I had in it were not worth $1000. I still have no idea why they were picked, as many more I submitted scored much higher on their scale.

I learned a lesson from this, though: Next time I'll only submit the names I think will do well...not just send in a huge list and let the auction company choose for me.

BTW--about the 90 day exclusivity by Moniker, yesterday in a chat session I was told that there is also a clause in the agreement that says you must contact Moniker 10 days prior to the 90 days ending and tell them not to renew the exclusivity, or it will automatically. Don't know if this is accurate.

I watched most of it online and I had my eye on a few names, but most of the ones I was interested in got no bids because they were overvalued. The one the surprised me was how.com, if I had half a million dollars I would have snapped that up, it has so much potential.

He bought my Poker.in...obviously a big spender! Probably one of the notorious Snapnames bigwigs or something.

Hello Raider,

Responding to your post:

I think that auctions are by nature targeted to domainers.

Let say I am looking for a classy name for a new service, as you may imagine I am not going to wait and see if I find that name in a domain auction. I need the domain now and there are big chances the names I want don't be present in the auction.
Now let say I am a company that have been doing well and decided to buy this terrific generic name that best describe my service/product.
Again, there is low chance this name be present in an auction.
For the end user the place for buy is generally domain markeplaces with a very huge inventory or a domain broker that will locate and negotiate the name to buy.
Domain auctions are really for investors (domainers).
Now there is a difference between domainers and resellers.
All the domainers are not resellers. Now all the resellers are domainers.

I think that was true in the past with afternic and sedo. I do think the moniker and domainools auctions have been seeing some re-targeting to not necessarily business, but domain developers. I think some of these are former domainers who made money and have found they can actually make more by using that money to buy and develop a name into a business than just trading names and finding end users and clicks. Obviously the names recently sold on these auctions at higher prices are not purchased for PPC income. Yes, some are flipped again, but names like those purchased for 5, 6, and 7 figures would be risky to flip at that price, but good bets for developed businesses.

The auction may be over, but some of the buyers are not done. Today I recieved an offer for Copies, com, above my asking reserve. Entering 6 digit territory. Not a done deal yet, but this guy seems very motivated as an end-user. He even contacted Jay, who in turn called me.

I'm positive the same will happen to some of you.
